When Is The July 2018 New Moon In Cancer & How Will Its Lunar Energy Affect You In Love & Relationships?
Love, Zodiac

Bring Cancer’s emotionally supportive energy into your heart this month.

For those of us in the Northern hemisphere, summer finally arrived when the sun entered the sign of Cancer on the Summer Solstice of June 20. And if you are a lover of lunar energy and astrology as I am, you may be wondering to yourself, when is the July 2018 New Moon, which zodiac sign will it be in, and how will it affect my relationships?

The New Moon arrives each month on the day when the sun and the moon dance cheek-to-cheek, which next occurs on July 12 in the sign of Cancer.

In ancient times, folks celebrated this day of new moon energy with bonfires and outdoor revelry. Sounds like the makings for a perfect beach party, doesn't it?

But while Solstice parties tend to focus on exuberant celebrations of the sun and light (after all, it is the longest day of the year), Cancer's New Moon energy brings us closer to love, home and family.

New moons are a perfect time to plant seeds for the ideas, plans, and actions we want to grow within our romantic relationships over the coming weeks, as the moon itself waxes towards full again.

If you’re really committed to maximizing that intention-setting energy, it’s best to do so within three days before or after the actual New Moon, between July 9 through 15.

If either you or your partner are a Cancer by birth, or if your moon is in Cancer, you’ll get an extra hug of that lunar love magic in whatever you decide to do.

What are the qualities of the Cancer New Moon in July 2018?

With the New Moon in Cancer, we get to take a softer, sweeter look at our all of our relationships and express what’s deep in our hearts.

Cancer is a water sign, which means it's all about honoring our emotions and intuition.

It is also the embodiment of quintessential "mothering" energy that is protective, nurturing, caregiving, and which may also include a passion for preparing and sharing food with loved ones.

People born under Cancer are known for being sensitive and sentimental homebodies, depending on what’s going on in the rest of their birth chart, of course.

In fact, the New Moon in Cancer is actually considering a "coming home" event astrologically, since Cancer is naturally ruled by the moon.

So, how can you take all of that warm, fuzzy Cancer New Moon energy and use it to enhance your relationships?

Since Cancer is all about building supportive, homey environments, start by incorporating these elements into your home and lifestyle, while Cancer's New Moon energy is in effect:

  • Elemental energy: Water
  • Colors: silver, white, and cream
  • Gemstones: pearl and moonstone
  • Flowers: white flowers, like roses and lilies
  • Essential oils: chamomile and lavender
  • Music: string instruments and the piano
  • Foods: water-based foods, like melon, watercress and seaweed, and soothing foods, like ice cream and rice

And, given the boost we're all set to receive from the incoming New Moon energy in Cancer, here are five ways you can harness that lunar magic to improve relationships and fall more deeply in love.

1. Jump into a bath together.

Use your imagination, and don't forget the candles and essential oils, of course!! Maybe white rose petals sprinkled in the water, too?

And if you’re an ice cream addict like I am, there are all kinds of titillating ways to play with that in the bath, from feeding each other to painting it on your bodies ... and licking it off!

2. Cuddle while you Netflix and chill.

Indulge in some seriously needed snuggle time.

You can even watch a mushy romance movie to add to the mood — like "Woman on Top", starring Penelope Cruz, or the romantic film from 1992, "Like Water for Chocolate."

3. Listen to music together under the covers.

Burrow under the sheets together while you're both wrapped in the cozy Cancer-crab cocoon of astrological intimacy and listen to some water-inspired melodies.

You could try Handel’s Water Music or any beautiful piano or string concertos that ebb and flow like water. And in a more contemporary vein, check out Michael Buble’s "Home" or country singer Brad Paisley’s ode to summer, "Water." Can't get any more literal than those.

4. Have an intimate tête-à-tête about your feelings.

Carve out some time to have authentic conversations during Cancer's New Moon.

Whether this means you simply elaborate more than usual on the highlights of your day, investigating your feelings about each part of your story along the way, or have a deeper heart-to-heart about your love for one another and what your future looks like, don't be afraid to open up more to each other emotionally now.

5. Add homey touches your love nest.

Look around your bedroom — and the rest of the house, for that matter — and see what you can do to make it feel more nurturing, welcoming and supportive as a way to help your physical space better reflect Cancer's New Moon energy.

Since Cancer is a water sign, you might get a whirlpool attachment for your tub or purchase a small tabletop-sized water feature to add a calming vibe to your desk.

Once you set up your home and lifestyle to make the most of the New Moon on July 12, you'll reap the benefits of Cancer's nurturing energy in waves across your love life and relationships.
