YourTango Editorial Policy

The Goal of Our Editorial Process

At YourTango, we’re committed to providing our readers reliable, thoughtful, and accurate information they can trust for guidance in all aspects of their lives and relationships. Our Editorial Process has been carefully developed to ensure everything we publish offers the best possible information.

Our writers, experts, medical reviewers and editors work diligently to ensure all content we publish meets our high editorial standards, which are based on the following foundational criteria:

  1. Upholding strict journalistic standards and integrity.
  2. Fostering human connection, empathy, diversity and inclusion.
  3. Careful and ongoing review of our content for accuracy, relevance and the most current, evidence-based information.

How Our Editorial Process Works

Authoritative Writers and Expert Contributors

We carefully select our writers, editors, experts and other contributors based on their subject-matter expertise, relevant experience and dedication to publishing meaningful content our readers can rely on for accurate, compassionate and insightful information on topics that have a meaningful impact on their lives.

Our Editorial Team

Our team of highly skilled editors are dedicated to ensuring content we publish has been carefully sourced, fact-checked, reviewed for accuracy and is presented in an objective and balanced manner (except in cases where the content in question is clearly identified as op-ed). Editors receive ongoing training in best practices, as well as regular feedback and mentoring.

Our Medical Review Board

All content pertaining to physical and mental health is reviewed on an ongoing basis for medical accuracy by licensed and credentialed experts with verified expertise in their respective fields.

Fact Checking

All of our new and updated content is fact-checked by our in-house editors before publication in order to ensure we use reliable sources that are referenced and cited clearly and properly.

Keeping the News Current and Trustworthy

YourTango’s News team regularly dives into the latest news stories and issues affecting our readers' lives with the aim of keeping them informed on what’s happening in the world around them.

Branded Content and Advertising

We thoroughly vet all the brands we partner with and mention in our content. Our Branded Content team researches our partner brands to evaluate their medical and health claims against the most current scientific evidence.

Our Voice

YourTango’s editorial voice is powerful, revealing, and inclusive, due to the incredible chorus of diverse voices that comprise it. These voices are at once brave, genuine, insightful, and empathetic.

They beautifully elevate what we specialize in publishing: moving personal stories, illuminating expert advice and analysis, compelling opinions, and thoughtful deep dives grounded in research that offer helpful context in a confusing world. In addition, we provide a sprinkling of news and pop culture, energizing wellness tips, and astrological insights.

We connect the dots between love and relationships; self care and caring for others: emotional intelligence, social justice, and happiness.

We prioritize accuracy, empathy, inclusivity and diversity of perspectives.

We strive to be certain all content we publish is accessible and easily understandable for our readers in a way they can apply the information they receive to their real lives with a clear sense of empathy, compassion and inclusion.

Continual Monitoring and Updating

We live in an age when information is constantly changing as new research and evidence emerges. We continually revisit our content to ensure we’re sharing the most up-to-date and accurate information possible and update it accordingly as needed.

You may see multiple dates on some of our content. Each refers to a different step in our editorial process.

  • Each piece of content is given a “written on” date when it is originally written and published on our site.
  • Every time a piece of content is reviewed by a member of our Medical Review Board, it receives an updated medical review date.
  • Whenever a piece of content is modified by editors for any reason, it receives a new “updated on” date.

Reader Feedback

YourTango warmly welcomes reader feedback on our content and will take reasonable action to review and address any potential issues around inaccuracy or otherwise when identified and brought to our attention.

We are committed to improving, growing, learning, and publishing more relevant, impactful content in order to benefit our readers, partners, and our society more broadly.
