The universe only ever has our best interest at heart, which becomes evident as we experience the third of six Mercury-Uranus sextiles, this one occurring on March 22nd, opening our eyes and encouraging us to speak up. When our zodiac signs experience Mercury sextile Uranus again, planets change, with Mercury in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus.

In astrology, Mercury is the planet that rules communication, and Uranus is known for sudden and unexpected changes he brings into our lives. This means we can plan all we want, but sometimes there’s a crack in how we thought things should go that is just big enough to let in our fate.

A sextile is when two planets are within 60 degrees of one another, which creates a beneficial aspect that ends up positively affecting our lives, love horoscopes, and relationships, even if we didn’t know we needed it.

This year is one in which many of us have high hopes for newness and leaving behind the old patterns that are no longer of benefit to our lives. But it’s one thing for us to want change and quite another to understand what it means to welcome it into our lives.

Often, we may set an intention to manifest that incredible life with an amazing lover, purpose-driven career, and the ability to have freedom to travel. Or, maybe our intention is just to be happy, whatever that may mean to us.

But we don’t consider what will have to occur within our life in order for that to happen. It’s lovely to think of the life we dream we’ll have, but difficult to consider what we have to lose or encounter in the process.

The one thing the universe is clear on is that we don’t get to choose how something happens; we don’t really have control over if something is meant for us or not, and we don’t get to pick when our lives are rocked and turned upside down. Because the process of becoming is the same process in which we must encounter to earn what we want.

This is when we’re tested and when we must demonstrate our dedication, our level of integrity, and our trust to keep going, even when we can’t see where that is.

Life asks us to risk it all, so we all reach this space of surrender, of letting go of holding on to people, situations, or careers that feel like a security blanket. We are asked not just to let go but embrace the fear; to embrace the unknown. Because only in that darkness can we, like the caterpillar, continually evolve so that one day we use our fledgling wings.

2020 is a year that many will remember for a long period of time. It’s the year when we’re going to see dramatic shifts.

And it's not just because of these Mercury-Uranus sextiles, but because of several other planetary configurations including Saturn in Aquarius, the four lunar eclipses, a full year of Uranus in Taurus, and Jupiter in Capricorn, among many others.

But the theme this year isn’t just change; it's in trusting enough to let go of what we’re holding onto, because as long as we are, the universe can’t give us anything more.

We’re seeing six of these sextiles between the planet of communication and the planet of change this year because we’re meant to use our voice that is still growing inside of us, to speak on what we want, what we don’t want, and to stay silent no more. A sextile also always refers to an aspect of previous karma that has been sowed, so during 2020 we’re also seeing the impact of the choices we’ve made in previous years.

Specifically, we’re being challenged in the areas of change that we’ve already encountered within our lives. Sometimes we think we ruined a chance at something, but the truth is, if something is meant for us and if it’s truly a part of our purpose here on this planet, there’s nothing we can do to thwart it.

Sometimes we’re given chances — second, third and even fourth chances — to make the moves and the choices we’re meant to. But even then, there are times when we as humans refuse to make those choices, so the Universe then creates a situation which becomes impossible to ignore. It’s the creation of a situation so difficult, so challenging, so exhausting that we are forced to do something.

For some of us, this is what 2020 will be about. Less free will and more of the universe helping us correct decisions and choices we’ve made out of fear, instead out of faith. Uranus moved into Taurus last March, so this year will be the first year in our lifetime that is ruled by this energy.

Uranus in Taurus is about sudden and unexpected events and change, but it’s also about creation energy. Uranus in Taurus wants to grow things, build our lives stronger, and will bring change — but only change that is in our best interest.

But Mercury is the planet of communication, which means we can’t keep it to ourselves anymore.

Maybe we don’t feel the need to shout it from the rooftops, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to speak our truth, to say our wants or dislikes, and to actively take a role in the creation of the life we desire. This means we have important if not challenging conversations in our future as we realize that we can’t keep quiet anymore, even if we’re not sure what will happen once we speak up.

This is the third of the six we will experience this year, with the others not occurring until summer, with two in June and one in July. This also means that this marks the halfway point of this life-changing energy meant not to pressure us into making a choice, but to help us realize that in life, what is meant for us, chooses us.

And whether we’re ready to take a chance or not, eventually, we will. Because the one thing we can’t ignore is fate.
