How The Astrology Of New Year’s Will Set The Tone For January 2020
Love, Zodiac

New Year's takes on a new twist with Mercury trine Uranus, with Mercury in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus. This astrology transit creates a spell-bounding wave of dynamic extraordinary energy that will have us walking a brand new path as we ring in 2020 and the new year.

Mercury is the planet that rules our communication and thought processes, while Uranus is known as the planet of shock and awe, the change bringer. Uranus is a rebel with a cause and has no problem upending the status quo in order to try something new or make his dreams come true.

The same is true for our zodiac signs, who will experience energetic phase of inspiration and confidence that lasts until August 2020.

In astrology, a trine is when two planets are within 120 degrees of one another, which creates greater harmony, creativity and inspiration. In this case, with the planet of communication and change, it means we’re going to see answers to problems we’ve struggled with for some time so we can think of away out once and for all.

But this also is about us seeing a greater picture and perspective so we can see what needs to change. And with Mercury in Capricorn, our thinking will be logical and on point.

This is an alignment that, while not necessarily a party atmosphere, is about us getting done what we need to complete. While other years we have thrown ourselves into what feels good, even if it (or he) only lasts a night, this year is different. We’re not playing around.

This is a brand new decade and we are tired of waiting around for someone else to make our dreams come true. So instead, we’re taking things into our own hands. Watch out because this is where the magic happens!

It’s not just that we’re going to see more clearly through the fog, confusion or broken heart, but with Mercury we can say what needs to be said, even if it’s difficult. So many times, if we’re able to think of something, we have a difficult time expressing it to others; or, if we can particularly express ourselves, we struggle with the motivation to make it happen.

However, under this transit, none of that is present. Together, these two planets are a full-on go for all of us.

This energy has been in place for most of December. We’re been treating this entire month as if it was our own personal New Year's Eve with reflection, awareness, risk and saying goodbye to old patterns or thought processes. We’ve been ready for a new beginning for some time, so while we will want to celebrate the end of the old — including the past decade — we also want to have our New Year's celebration reflect that.

For most this year, New Year's Eve will be a more intimate affair. That’s not to say we’re not going to see the throngs of people flooding Times Square in New York City, but most of us are going to want to celebrate with those we know are on our side. Those who have walked through fire with us, and who accept us unconditionally as ourselves.

But one thing that's clear with Mercury trine Uranus, is that we’re not going to settle for "almost" or "maybe," because in this new phase we’re entering in our lives, it also includes the company we keep.

We may turn it up, but it will be with close friends or family. If we go out, it’s unlikely we’ll indulge beyond reason and will want to be more sober and level-headed as we ring in 2020, which is thanks to that plethora of grounding energy not just from Capricorn but also Taurus.

There is one caveat to all this, though. While we are looking to get to work, make big changes and not waste our time on those who don’t put time into us, we are doing so during an eclipse rabbit hole.

We began our eclipse season on December 26th with the new moon in Capricorn and Solar Eclipse. These times are always up for immense change and spontaneity, the kind of thing where we never saw it coming, but when it does, we can’t imagine anything different.

There’s also been a lot of Uranian energy this month, just as there is with this transit, which means the unexpected is likely to occur. Anything is possible during this time, so as much as we’re making plans, trying to set things right and make changes, the Universe also may have its own agenda. That means no matter how much we may plan, it doesn’t mean everything is happening according to that.

Try to be gentle with what comes up, and be less rigid and more flowing. Think of yourself as open arms and heart, dedicated to your path but welcoming what comes, and also what may leave.

Mercury and Uranus are all about change, making a difference and being confident within our lives.

And it's all to express what that is to those around us. While it shouldn’t matter what others say or think about us, it does matter what we choose to share with them or not.

We must speak our truth, regardless of how it is perceived by others. We must speak up, say what we feel, what we want, and trust that if we’re staying true to ourselves, speaking the truth even when it’s hard, it’s not just that things will turn out okay, but better than we could have ever predicted.

This New Year's, think of staying close to home, passing on the lavish parties and clothes, and instead, making plans your future self will thank you for. After all, she’ll be here sooner than you think and, in the end, like everything, it will be worth it.
