You never know how hard it is to act after being cheated on until you’ve actually been cheated on. There’s a huge rush of emotion that fills you that can make it impossible to act rationally when you find out.
The worst is when you hear it from someone else your significant other was with, someone who wasn’t you, and you have to figure out what to do when you’ve been cheated on all on your own.
Sure, you can ask friends and sometimes even family, but everyone deals with being cheated on differently. And only you can figure out what to do after hearing the news.
Unfortunately, just because you don’t want to be cheated on doesn’t mean it might not happen. People cheat for different reasons. But if you’re that unhappy in your relationship, your first plan of action should be to talk, communicate and listen to your partner, not jump into bed with someone else.
But this isn’t about the cheaters. This is about those who have been cheated on and what to do when you find out they have cheated on you.
And based on your zodiac sign, the remedy to get over your cheating partner or ex may be as simple as crying it out, trying to forgive him, and sometimes, yes, even burning his things.
So, if you find yourself in this dumpster fire of a situation, look to astrology to help you figure out what to do. Because sometimes, giving into your zodiac sign’s basic needs and wants might actually make you feel better.
Here's what happens when you cheat on each of the zodiac signs.
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Getting cheated on is not something that Aries takes lightly, whether they have been dating that person for a few weeks or a few years. They aren't one to leave the relationship without answers, but they also believe there should be some punishment for breaking their heart.
Some people might think that Aries isn’t someone who can get their heart broken, but if you put them in a situation like this, anything can happen.
When Aries finds out they have been cheated on, their immediate reaction is to get revenge on their significant other. Not only does Aries want them to know that they know, they want it to hurt when he or she finds out that the relationship is over.
Quite frankly, Aries doesn’t really give a crap if their partner is sorry or wishes the relationship were over, too. Aries only wants to get revenge and let their cheating partner pick up the pieces.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
When Taurus finds out they have been cheated on, they are distraught — and with good reason, too. But instead of cursing out their partner or going to friends for support, Taurus completely closes themselves off from everyone in their life... except their partner.
They might try to get some sympathy from their partner or even forgive them without a second thought, but for the most part, Taurus holes themselves up in their room until they are done being sad.
This method can work for a little bit, but in reality, ignoring the situation doesn’t do Taurus any good. Taurus knows they are hurt and chances are pretty good that they already know how they wants this to play out, but sitting and stewing in emotions only makes them feel worse.
If anything, Taurus should look to their friends for support and guidance instead of feeling embarrassed or burdensome.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Being cheated on can make Gemini feel incredibly conflicted. As the Twins of the Zodiac, they feel a lot of different emotions at once. Gemini wants to scream at their partner, but doesn’t even want to give them the satisfaction.
Gemini wants to leave them for good, but wants to hear them out. They try to make decisions with their brain, not their heart, but when you love someone, that can be way easier said than done.
One thing Gemini does manage to do is cut off all communication with their partner. Yes, they are angry, and yes, they still want to talk it out before making a decision, but they know that being cheated on isn’t the same as having a fight; it’s a betrayal of trust and love.
And Gemini knows that letting their partner influence them is only going to make it worse. So Gemini blocks them on all social media and lets their heart and head battle it out.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Love is hard; it isn’t just black and white. There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to the highs and the lows of a relationship. And just because Cancer's been cheated on doesn’t mean that the relationship is doomed.
Of course, some people find Cancer utterly crazy for not dumping them, but Cancer really does want to figure it all out first before deciding to leave or stay.
Of course, Cancer also knows that they can be crazy emotional — and they are when they first find out, which is why they don’t trust themselves to handle the next steps alone.
Cancer would rather go to couples counseling, not only to get the help and opinion of a professional but to duke it out in a safe environment. Screaming and crying aren't going to help, but healing together just might.
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Leo tries to do everything in life with deliberation and intention; you’ll never catch them doing something just for the hell of it. So, by this way of thinking, Leo feels like their partner probably cheated for a specific reason — not just because there was an opportunity to do so.
Of course, they might be way off-base and it was just because of an opportunity, but Leo isn’t satisfied with that answer until they know for sure.
When Leo finds out they have been cheated on, their first step is to talk it out with their partner. It’s going to be hard and there will be tears, but it’s the act of hearing it firsthand as soon as possible that makes it easier to swallow.
Leo doesn’t want to let their partner sit on it and change their mind, or ignore them and change their own mind, so Leo does the hard part first. This talk might be ugly, but it might just help.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Virgo knows that being cheated on is heartbreaking and can make you feel lost, but they also know that no one is perfect.
That’s not a green light to let all of their partners cheat, but they do try to see the situation from their partner's perspective. This means trying to forgive them, even when Virgo can barely stand to look at them.
Virgo isn’t forgiving because they would rather not deal with it; rather, because they want to give their partner the benefit of the doubt. They might never get back together again, but Virgo doesn’t have to keep feeling hatred.
Forgiveness takes time, but Virgo is willing to put in the work as long as their ex proves that cheating wasn’t done out of animosity for the relationship. Sounds a little convoluted, but Virgo has their reasons.
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
When Libra finds out that they have been cheated on, they can be incredibly vindictive and spiteful. They would get revenge on their (now) ex, but feels like that is way too easy.
Libra would much rather get even and do to them exactly what their partner did. That means only one thing: Libra cheats with someone else; preferably their partner's best friend or sibling.
Not only does Libra want this breakup to hurt, they want their partner to remember that Libra isn’t someone to mess with for years to come. Libra can be really mean when they want to be, but hides it very well until they are ready to unleash the monster within.
They might pretend to forgive their partner, but as soon as Libra gets an opportunity, they are willing to tear them down.
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Cheating is all about dishonesty and breaking trust — two things Scorpio absolutely cannot stand in a relationship. But this zodiac sign is also not dumb.
Scorpio knows that if they blow up at their partner and then break it off, not hearing the reason why they cheated will haunt Scorpio forever. But they don’t just want the reason why; they want all the sordid details. Hey, it’s Scorpio's relationship and they have a right to know what happened!
When Scorpio is hurt, they can either be scary calm or totally wild. How they act isn’t the point, though. Scorpio really just wants their partner to be honest before dumping them. Scorpio wants all of the facts so they can put them together in their own time, but it’s important for it to be face to face.
Scorpio is like a human lie detector — it’s almost impossible to lie to them, which means they gets the answers they need from their partner.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 19)
Sagittarius’ mindset after being cheated on is usually, “Yep, I told you this would happen.” Maybe they have cheated a few times, maybe they have been cheated on a few more, but Sagittarius is ultimately hurt because they were fooled into a serious relationship.
This sign is all about having fun and enjoying life, and getting serious with someone pretty much goes against everything they believe.
So when they have been cheated on, Sagittarius' first reaction is to get drunk and get laid. Clearly, sex and love don’t matter anymore, so why should they care? Yes, this is destructive behavior that will end up creeping up on them a few months down the road, but it’s how they cope.
It might take them a while to trust again, but can you blame them? At least Sagittarius' reaction is the most relatable.
Capricorn (December 20 - January 19)
Relationships to Capricorn are meant to be taken seriously. And nothing says “anything but serious” like cheating.
Capricorn may try to be their mature self when they first find out they have been cheated on, but they are also known for being condescending and short-tempered, which means their partner isn’t getting off that easily.
In fact, their thinking is that their partner took away something Capricorn loved, so they are going to take away something their soon-to-be ex loves. Sounds pretty fair, right?
And in true Capricorn fashion, when they find out what their partner has been doing behind their back, Capricorn decides that the only thing to do to show how upset they are would be to burn all of their ex's things. If Capricorn has a balcony, all of their partner's precious breakable things are going off of it.
But for the most part, Capricorn wants to inflict damage on their partner's possessions and show that they aren’t someone to mess with. It’s a harsh punishment, obviously, but this is how they cope with being cheated on.
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Aquarius wishes they could be as calculated with punishments as some signs and as forgiving as others, but when they find out that they have been cheated on, there’s way too much going on inside their head to really make a definitive move.
They know that they should be furious (and they are), but they want to make their next words and actions count, which, for them, takes some time. So, in the meantime, Aquarius does what everyone should do when they first find out: take a break from the relationship.
It sounds so easy and yet so unimaginative, but Aquarius isn’t thinking about how to best hurt their partner. What they really want to do is take care of themselves and their own feelings.
Like a few of the other signs, being in a serious relationship is a big deal for Aquarius, and when something bad happens, they question whether they would be better off alone or not.
So, by taking a break from talking to their partner, spending time with them, and even just being around them, Aquarius is allowing themselves to really decide what they want to do next — maybe slash their tires, maybe cut them out for good.
Pisces (Feb 19 - March 20)
When Pisces finds out that they have been cheated on, they go into total break-down mode. This is a relationship they have been investing in for however long and, all of a sudden, it’s over. Just like that.
Pisces might seem like a pushover, but they are actually a lot stronger than people realize. That means that cheating is an inexcusable offense and they can’t forgive it. Chances are pretty good that Pisces won’t hear about the news from their partner’s mouth, but rather from the person they cheated with or a friend who saw them with not-Pisces.
It’s a huge blow to hear that they have been cheated on because Pisces puts in so much effort. They try their hardest when it comes to being a good partner and lover that they really question their place in everyone’s lives. Pisces' go-to reaction to this news is to cry it out until they have to rehydrate before crying again.
They always call on their friends when they are sad and this is no exception. Whether they bring over comfort food, movies, or a shiny new poster of Channing Tatum’s abs to make them feel better, Pisces knows that sometimes you need to be sad before you can get over it.
