Sex Problems In Christian Marriages: Porn, Cheating And ED -- Oh My!

Love

“Life is short. Have an affair.” That was the tagline of a popular website that encouraged married people to scratch their sexual itches by hooking up with a random stranger – with claims that the liaison would satisfy sexual urges and no one would be the wiser.

We all know how that bad advice turned out.

Instead of turning to non-Scriptural ways to fix the problems inside of a Christian marriage, believing husbands and wives have new resources in 2016 to find holy help.

One such place is Love Realm, which pairs Christians with other Christians so that they can mentor one another. Not just for married folks, the social networking site has more than 50,000 users around the world that can seek to help one another out – with aims to keep out the bad influences that fill other chat rooms on a daily basis.

There might be a woman dealing with a husband who doesn’t care to talk about his problems with porn – and the same husband might not realize how much his porn addiction caused his erectile dysfunction.

That same couple might find Christian mentors who – instead of advising them to spice things up by watching a lot of porn together – explain how they found success by giving themselves challenges. Perhaps the wife would go seven days without shopping for unnecessary items whilst the husband challenged himself for the same amount of days to not watch porn.

Both could set up a Seinfeld-like “master of my domain” challenge to abstain from masturbating for 30 days – and at the end of the challenge, the winner or winners would receive a deep tissue massage. Not only would the challenges give the couple something to look forward to in order to foster growth and closeness in their own marriage – but they could find effective help from faith-filled folks who’ve “been there, done that” – and perhaps still fall once and a while but pick up the pieces and more forward.

The point is, having Christian solutions to everyday problems means that the basic tenets of faith are agreed upon: That means, for the most part, not looking towards things like adultery, porn or illicit sex in order to solve Christian marital sex woes.

It could mean waiting things out, or finding distractions if need be. If a believing man has plied his wife with a glass or two of red wine and a tempting bubble bath – but she still won’t bite (him) because her sex drive or sense of sexual experimentation is low, he could pray that the Lord would lead her to get any medical or psychology treatment she needs ASAP – before he cheats.

If a woman is dealing with a frustrating husband who’d rather spend more time on his Fantasy Football stats instead of addressing her long-held fantasies – she needn’t take long and romantic walks along the beach with another guy. She too can pray for revival in her undefiled marital bed and hit the Stairmaster in the meantime.

The best part is that no matter what happens in Christian marriages – even if temptation causes one or both parties to fall – forgiveness of the all-important “Christ” in the word Christian means getting up and having more chances at success. With new apps and websites designed to help Christians get the help they need faster and more efficiently, it’s the stuff that Jesus’ disciples could only dream about in ancient days.
