getty When you deflect, you depart from the originally intended direction. An example of deflecting? Every time you are at a family gathering, relatives question you on your marital status and you do everything to get them off the subject.
With texting, deflecting has its own word: deflexting. This is when you’re asking a question to someone via text and they deliberately avoid answering it. Deflection and deflexting are especially aggravating when it’s done by someone you’re dating.
It’s helpful to have some kind of guide on how to handle this behavior, and that’s where astrology comes in. Everyone has their own way of deflecting and it can be influenced by their zodiac sign, which is valuable information when you just can’t figure out how to get a straight answer.
Communication can be tricky because people aren’t always straightforward, direct, or honest. Trying to decipher what they’re trying to tell you in their own way can make you feel like your head is spinning, especially if they’re not even aware they’re deflecting.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
The Aries guy deflects by starting a completely random argument with you. It will seem as if it's coming out of left field and it will feel personal. The truth is he's just using the argument as a way to deflect from the subject you've asked about.
Rather than answering directly, he starts arguing with you to get your focus off the topic and onto wondering why the two of you are suddenly fighting.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
The Taurus guy deflects by ignoring the question altogether. If he can wait it out (and he can outwait anybody), he hopes you'll eventually give up and move onto something else. If you bring it up again, he'll ignore that too.
It becomes a challenge to him to see which one of you will cave. Spoiler alert: it's probably not him. He can wait until something else distracts you and you move on from that topic.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
The Gemini guy deflects by constantly changing the subject. He does it in a subtle way and you may not catch on at first. Geminis are gifted conversationalists and they have any number of subjects they can talk about in an interesting way, so they will find one that will pull your attention away from the matter at hand.
Geminis are clever and if they don't want to talk about something, they can do a whole dog and pony show to direct your attention elsewhere.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers are one of the signs that do their best deflection via text. They'll seem as if they're addressing the topic head-on by telling you the two of you can talk about it in real-time, and then somehow when you're together the subject isn't brought up.
You have to wonder what he's so scared about sharing that he's dodging the topic. You might just have to call his bluff if you really want some answers.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leo would love to answer all your questions but he's just too busy. Can you talk about it later? How about next Tuesday or two weeks from Friday? Strangely, the subject never seems to get a top priority and there are always other things Leo has to do or talk about.
Is he trying to buy some time so he can figure out his next move? Could be, but for a sign that's known for being straightforward, it seems a little shady to not tell you what you want to know.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Virgo deflects by giving an information overload. He explains things, illuminates hard to understand concepts, and reveals secrets; however, none of what he's telling you is what you really want to know.
Virgo knows a lot, but he's holding back. It's hard to blame him for getting lost in the details, but it seems calculated. You have to wonder if he's deliberately playing you or is just enthusiastic about sharing his wealth of knowledge.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
The Libra guy deflects by flirting. You can be talking about a serious subject when, suddenly, he'll start to flirt and compliment you. He puts the focus on you in a charming and completely disarming way that it's hard to stay on task.
It's an old school move but that doesn't mean it isn't effective. We all like to hear nice things about ourselves and it's hard to get mad at someone who is praising you. Smart move, Libra.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Whereas the Libra guy gets flirty when he's deflecting, the Scorpio guy gets sexual. The Scorpio sexual energy is always there underneath the surface anyway, but don't think he's not coming on to you deliberately to get your mind off whatever he doesn't want to talk about.
He's distracting you by letting you know how hot he thinks you are and how he can't resist you, even for a few minutes.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Most Sagittarians aren't eager to be tied down, and if you want him to tell you where he sees your relationship going, he's going to try to put off having that conversation.
He may tell you it's too soon to tell and that the two of you can discuss in the future, but when you bring up it again, he's going to go through the whole thing and may get annoyed with you for not giving him enough time.
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Capricorn deflects by giving you a ton of reasons why it's not the right time to discuss what you need to talk about. It shouldn't matter if it's the right time or not if you need answers, but if Capricorn doesn't want to go there.
They're going to act like they're trying to sell you on the idea of waiting until the proper time. They're not being dishonest, but it's still frustrating and hard to handle.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Aquarius use forgetting as a way to deflect. They'll put off a conversation, and then when the appointed time comes up, they'll forget to bring it up. And when you do, they'll act confused.
If they sense there's going to be drama over this topic, they're going to keep deflecting. Aquarians can come off as aloof because they aren't comfortable when other people are emotional. They'll do what they can to avoid causing a meltdown.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces deflect by physically and mentally escaping. They may get caught up in a project so they just don't have the time for that conversation you wanted to have, or they might retreat into their heads when you're trying to talk to them about something they don't want to hear.
Pisces have a talent for not dealing with issues that make them uncomfortable or may result in consequences that won't benefit them.
