Conversations become a lot more direct and clear for our zodiac signs as we see Mercury sextile Mars — with Mercury in Aquarius and Mars in Sagittarius — on January 25th, upping our confidence and encouraging us to speak our minds, whether it's related to our love horoscopes or personal lives.

In astrology, a sextile is when two planets are within 60 degrees of one another, which creates a beneficial and harmonious energy for us to work with. There is also an aspect of karma that often is associated with this transit as well, meaning we’re likely to see whatever we’ve been putting out into the Universe come back to us.

Usually, this is a transit that occurs a couple times a year. The last time we saw it was March of 2019.

We will experience another Mercury-Mars sextile in February and April of this year, which means we’re being encouraged to speak our truth and not hesitate in going after what we want.

Astrology is amazing in the way it aligns to gives us precisely what we need, when we need it. It stirs up our lives, creates windows of opportunity, forces change, and then gives us the confidence to take that leap of faith.

This is what January is all about — everything happened in a perfectly timed rhythmed sequence that allows us to gain the most benefit.

It’s been about two weeks since we had our powerful cluster of events around the 11th, and still we’re moving through the process. Even if something strikes as lightening, even if we are propelled forward, there is still more to figure out, align and work through. For us right now, we’re in the midst of how to blend where we were with where we now want to be — the right way.

Many times, when we think of right or wrong, it’s subjective, something that can be argued based on perspective or principle. But when we’re talking about life changes — moving from one phase to another, one location to another, and even one partner to another — there is a no right way or wrong way to do it.

It’s very likely that we all got a bit excited this month when all these new changes were coming in, so we rushed ahead forgetting a few steps along the way.

The new moon in Aquarius we just experienced called us back to tie up some loose ends, and now this Mercury-Mars sextile is going to help us seal the deal in all areas of our lives.

When we’re talking about the right way to change our lives, it means we’re doing so with honesty, transparency, integrity and truth. We’re operating as our highest selves, speaking our mind when we need to, being honest about our feelings, wants, desires and even plans.

It doesn’t mean we’re not hurting anyone, because another’s feelings are always their responsibility and we can’t live our lives concerned about who we’re hurting. Then, the person we end up hurting the most is ourselves.

This is right because it’s in alignment with high vibrational actions and feelings. The truth isn’t always easy and of course it’s easier to lie, to pretend that everything is fine, and say "I’m not thinking of leaving" or "No, I only love you." But these words are worth nothing because they aren’t based in truth, honesty and integrity.

The thing with these principles is that in order to be honest, we first need to know what our truth is, and in order to acknowledge our truth, we need to develop our own sense of integrity for ourselves so we’re the ones we let down if we lie or deny a feeling or want.

At the time of this sextile, Mercury is in Aquarius and Mars is in Sagittarius. Mercury in Aquarius is only concerned about the truth, and Mars in Sagittarius isn’t going to let anyone stop him this time. This is exactly the kind of energy we need when we look at wrapping up this fast-paced energy we’ve been under.

While it’s likely that we’re still going to have to do some backtracking and realize that it may take some time for us to get where we want to be, we can still make progress in such a way that we’re building a stronger future.

The only thing we ever needed to do in order to get what we want is to tell the truth — first to ourselves and then to others. Mercury in Aquarius rules our minds, thoughts and words, so anything we’re dealing with around this time, we’re likely to be blunt, and with Mars in the mix we may get to that breaking point where we’re tired of a cycle, feeling or relationship dynamic. So, we snap as Mars tends to inflate tempers.

In this case, it’s pent up frustration from a lack of honesty that would be contributing to this outburst. But still, the important thing to remember is it’s out.

Don’t try to backtrack or apologize for speaking your truth. While it’s always a good idea to try and be honest before we get to that breaking point, we also sometimes need those moments to really understand how we’re feeling. So, if you find yourself there, don’t take it back. Don’t let the other person or people involved emotionally manipulate you into thinking their emotional well being is your responsibility.

If it feels like truth, then that’s all that matters, and you’ll know if it is by the peace you feel in your heart. The weight will be lifting and you’ll be able to breathe more easily.

This is a time in astrology for honest moments and conversation, but it’s also one in which we could take giant strides into our future.

More than others, this transit is one that encourages proposals of any kind. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with rings and white dresses, though we can see that, but it’s also about relationship dynamics, levels of intimacy, housing arrangements, and maybe even a big trip or two.

The energy behind this is the desire to no longer wait, because if we know what we want and we’re finally feeling the exhilaration from living our truth, we want it to keep going. But that’s the beautiful thing about the truth: while scary to embrace, once we do, we just can’t seem to get enough of it.
