What Is Vedic Astrology & Meaning For Each Zodiac Sign

It’s out with the Sun and in with the stars!

When we think of astrology in the West, we immediately think of our birthdate, but when it's calculated this type of astrology uses a different system than Vedic.

Each day on the calendar year is assigned a season; that season correlates to your Sun sign, your dominant sign, and that part never changes.

But there is one big problem with this kind of practice that we don’t think about regularly.

Vedic uses sidereal zodiacs and western uses tropical zodiac sign placement. The stars and constellations do change their position from year to year. Vedic astrology refactors that location and takes that into consideration.

And, since the Earth’s tilt and the orbital path on which we move around the Sun, our calendar year changes.

Every 72 years, we lose an entire year in our revolution! Think about how this applies to western astrology, especially considering it is thousands of years old!

When you calculate your date of birth according to Vedic Astrology, we could all be the sign prior to the one we’ve thought we were our whole lives!

Think about how many Capricorns you have denied the time of day in your romantic life because you would rather be single than deal with their condescending glances.

All this while they could be the Sagittarius of your dreams!

These differences between western and eastern angles of astrology can also be seen through astronomy, the science of space.

Think about when you are out at a bar with your best friends and you hear the loud newbie around the corner bragging about her placement to a group of potential new gal pals.

“Well, my Mars is in Scorpio so that’s why I’m naturally so outgoing in new places like this.”

Everyone in your group rolls their eyes, but so do astronomers across the globe. By looking to the stars at the Scorpio constellation, they would not find Mars. Thus, they do not trust western astrology.

Rather than basing the rhetoric off of the Sun's connection to our place on Earth, which as we have now discovered is not consistent, Vedic Astrology channels the Sun’s connection to the other stars.

Another use of Vedic Astrology is to plan for the future. Using time periods referred to as “planetary periods,” a lifetime can be broken up and predicted.

Different aspects of a planet, such as its sign, house, lordship, strength, etc., give clues as to what we should expect about major life events and when we should expect them.

Some possible examples include advancements or setbacks in our career paths, romantic lives, and the prospects of marriage and children.

Your Sun sign is determined in Vedic Astrology in a similar way to western astrology.

The only difference is the perspective from which the stars are observed.
