How the Mercury Sextiles Will Affect The Rest of Our Month
Love, Zodiac

Sometimes, we just have to make the choice to do it.

The middle of March will light up in possibilities and change thanks to two different Mercury sextiles: Mercury sextile Pluto — with Mercury in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn — and Mercury sextile Mars — with Mars in Taurus and again with Mercury in Pisces. These transits in astrology will have us get off the sidelines and want to take action.

A sextile is a beneficial aspect occurring when two planets are within 60 degrees of one another, often times bringing forth the harvest from decisions and choices we had previously sown. And for our zodiac signs and love horoscopes, these sextiles will focus on our relationships and change in the future.

On March 16th, Mercury sextiles Pluto, upsetting something we had thought we’d built from the ground up. Just a couple days later, on March 18th, when Mercury sextiles Mars, we will want to take action based on something new that we’ve learned, seen or experienced.

Both sextiles are occurring directly after our cazimi, which indicates that we’re going to have some choices to make about what direction we take our lives.

Yes, we’re in a retrograde. Yes, we just had Mercury begin a brand new cycle. Yes, Uranus just moved into Taurus until 2026. But that doesn’t mean everything is crystal clear. There may be multiple directions or possibilities, whether it’s career, life direction, and love. And things aren’t always what they first seem.

The first sextile involves Mercury in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is the lord of the underworld, the planet that often makes the unknown, known, or the secrets come out. It’s sextiling Mercury during a retrograde though, which means that something or someone from our past is going to make an appearance. Perhaps it’s a situation where we had broken up with someone, we each went on our way, and now that we’re starting to see or get to know someone new, that ex comes back saying all the things we had hoped they would months ago.

With Pluto in Capricorn, it means that whatever it is will be strongly connected to what we feel are our personal foundations. This isn’t just a passing fling that returns for round two, but more like someone you thought you’d spend forever with and had become a deep part of your life. But that was before the healing, before the closure, and before you moved on.

It’s likely that whatever your life seemed to be is going to become uprooted by what comes back up for review. Perhaps it won’t be a person, and in that case it’s likely it’s a piece of information or news we missed before or wasn’t ready to come out.

Pluto deals with shedding light on the darkest of subjects. He makes sudden changes, takes what was true yesterday and makes it false today. There is no going back from whatever Pluto wants us to learn, and with the next sextile involving Mars, it’s almost as if the stars are making it impossible for us to avoid taking action.

Just a few days after the first sextile, we will have Mercury sextile Mars, once again setting a fire under us to act upon whatever Pluto brought up. While this transit could deal with our careers or even families, with Pisces involved, there will be more of a shift towards matters of the heart.

Pisces speaks their heart, not just their truth. They say what they feel, and they can’t help but express whatever they are feeling, even if it takes some time. Mercury retrograde in Pisces is already getting us in touch with our feelings; we’re already going back over some old terrain — not to dig up old wounds but to bring closure and healing to those issues.

Mars wants us to take action. Not tomorrow, not a week from now, but right in this moment, today. In Taurus, he may be a bit gentler and patient, but because this earth sign favors pleasure, he’s not going to put off something that makes him feel good for another day, especially if it’s concerning love. And Taurus also rules Venus, the planet of love.

We all have free will and the ability to make choices for ourselves, regardless of what soul contracts or agreements we came into. While there is a hand of destiny at play always involving setting up for certain situations, we have the final choice as to whether we will stay in cycles of wounding or actively choose someone or something from healing.

We have the choice, which means around this time, it’s likely an ex or even someone from our past who didn’t get a chance will return. We have to choose it. Just because someone returns to our lives, it doesn’t mean it’s meant to be; however, it also doesn’t mean that it’s not.

Ultimately, we have to look at what arises during these sextiles and what people or news they bring back into our lives. If it’s an ex returning, focus on the health of the relationship. Could things really be different? Does it feel like change really did occur? Is it worth going back to try again?

Don’t be afraid to examine any new connections. Not to compare the two, but figure out which person or situation represents a new cycle, which potential partners represents your healing, rather than your wounding.

These are just a few of the questions we should ask ourselves, because while the choice is always ours, until we start making choices from newness and healing, we’ll only ever be repeating the unlearned lessons of our past.

While we all like to be sure of something, such as whether an ex is meant for us or not, sometimes we have to take the knowledge we’ve learned and make a choice to take some sort of action. Whether it’s to say, “I forgive you, let’s try again,” or, “I forgive you, but I can’t go back” is what Mars is pushing us towards. We just have to make a choice and see what happens.
