A BIG life change is in the works.

On February 16th, we began the year of the dog in the Chinese zodiac. And because your Chinese horoscope differs from zodiac signs, the changes in your life will follow suit.

Someone with the dog as their sign is born in the years 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. Chinese astrology doesn’t follow the Georgian calendar that we use to mark January 1st as the start of the New Year; instead, it follows the lunar cycles, which is why it’s celebrated later in the year.

Dogs are the 11th sign of the Chinese zodiac and the most loyal. Dogs are kind, generous souls who enjoy living simply and doing the right thing. They will do anything for the person or people closest to them, and because of that, they tend to go out of the way for their lover.

Dogs are naturally monogamous, preferring to devote all of their time and attention to one partner rather than spreading it out on multiple partners.

Because dogs are experiencing a return to their sign this year, it marks it as a crucial one for them on their journey. Generally, dogs are self-sacrificing — not because they have to be or even that they are asked to, but because they generally want to go out of their way to bring happiness and love to those around them. However, if they are wronged they tend to take it to hear, feeling utterly betrayed by those who are closest to them.

2018 is going to be an important year for dogs in the areas of finances and career. While it’s sometimes seen as a difficult year when we see a return to a sign, this year isn’t so much about bad luck as the Chinese zodiac believes in; rather, it's about overcoming challenges to help manifest true and lasting good luck. During the next year, dogs are going to be asked to work harder than they have in years past.

One of the strongest qualities of the dog is their sense of ambition, of working on a project until they not only see completion but utter success. During this year, dogs have one thing in mind: to win, to come ahead, and to make their dreams come true at all costs.

Dogs aren’t often seen as being strategic or hard; however, because of the drive to succeed, this year we will be seeing these qualities come out more frequently in ourselves and those fellow dogs.

We have to be careful to not play too hard in dealing with others and remember than we can be focused on a goal but also flexible on the methods. While we want to achieve career success, personal relationships are always of the utmost importance to us, which means that during this year we will have to strike a balance between flourishing at all costs and maintaining those relationships that we value the most.

For dogs, 2018 is going to be an interesting year when it comes to love and relationships, because that same sense of ambition we have when it comes to our careers will also transfer over to our love lives.

Knowing what we want when it comes to our hearts and relationships is a crucial aspect to go after it, but we have to be mindful of how we go about expressing our truth. It’s not that we have to feel that we are stifled, but sometimes dogs can become overly eager in getting what they want; instead of slowing down and taking their time, they channel the exuberant puppy who is running around in circles because they just want it now.

This next year is truly a life phase year for dogs, which means that thanks to the hard work that will occur, we will begin a new leg on our journey in both our careers and personal lives. This is truer for those born in the later years of the dog because it’s those who are on the edge of starting a new relationship or a new type of commitment within an existing relationship.

During the next year, if dogs can slow down a little bit, and exhibit their gentler and playful natures, they will find greater success in love, leading to great new relationships and even engagements.

While some aspects point to pregnancies being a possibility, for the most part, this year is really about finding that partner to feel balanced. Dogs naturally are part of a pack, so while they may go through periods of being single, ultimately they feel happiest when they have a partner because then it feels like their pack is complete.

Dogs, specifically women, have to be aware of their pride in the coming year when it has to do with relationships. There is a likelihood that we may be less likely to forgive or forget or to compromise during this time. And while we are able to choose to act more reasonably, it’s something we have to be aware of so it doesn’t stunt any romantic possibilities.

Dogs have to be careful of accidents, especially while on vacation. Because they will be more determined and excitable during the following year, they are also more likely to be careless or to quite literally leap before they look.

Although this year will see some challenges, overall it could be quite a time for the dog — as long as we can stay balanced and focused on what is ahead of us and what is happening around us in this moment.

Dogs always seems to find the sun regardless of the situation, and this year is truly about them doing the work to start a new life phase — not because what has come before hasn’t mattered, but because sometimes we just need to let ourselves become the people that we knew we were destined to become all along.
