Sleep is tremendously important to a healthy life. We must get good sleep for our brains and bodies to function properly, but there are all kinds of issues we can encounter such as insomnia, night terrors, sleep apnea, and snoring.

One of the more frustrating sleep disorders is not going to sleep the moment your head hits the pillow. Tossing and turning can be aggravating when you’ve got your alarm set, and you know the more time you have to spend getting to sleep, the less time you have to actually sleep. Are there methods we can use for how to fall asleep fast?

Whether or not you believe in astrology, our zodiac signs have a lot to do with how we get to sleep. And because of their differing personalities, each has their own methods. Some of these methods — wearing socks to bed, having special pajamas, breathing only through your left nostril, sticking your face in ice water — may seem silly, but you never know what can help in the quest to quickly get to sleep.

Some people have rules they follow such forbidding themselves to look at any kind of screen an hour before bed, having caffeine after a certain time during the day, or drinking anything just before bed. There are also natural supplements that can help such as melatonin, valerian, or St. John’s wort.

ARIES (March 21 - April 19)

In order to help themselves get to sleep faster, Aries will try to expend as much energy as they can throughout the day. They work hard, play hard, and exercise hard so that by the time they go to bed, they're good and exhausted.

Aries have a lot of energy and tend to stay busy, so it's not too difficult for them to be extremely tired at bedtime.

TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

What helps Taurus get to sleep quickly is to drink a warm beverage like decaf tea or milk, and/or have a warm bath complete with candles burning. The warm liquid helps Taurus to unwind from their day.

Since they're very sensual, adding some scented oils to the bath water will help their muscles to relax. This evening ritual can help them go to sleep immediately and sleep like a baby.

GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)

It's helpful for Gemini to get to sleep quickly if they listen to white noise from a background noise generator or they listen to apps like Headspace or Sleep Genius. Complete silence may not work for Geminis because they start focusing on their thoughts, not focusing on getting to sleep.

CANCER (June 21 - July 22)

One of the ways Cancer makes sure they get to sleep quickly is with their room. They'll make sure there are no flashing lights, no beeping, and they'll put their phone on "do not disturb."

Cancers always have clean bedding, good pillows, and the room is at the right temperature. They like their homes to be comfortable, so it's natural they'd take extra care to make sure their bedroom would promote good sleep.

LEO (July 23 - August 22)

Before Leo turns off the light to go to sleep, they will think about their day — what they accomplished, what they enjoyed, and all the positives the day brought. They will also think about their goals and dreams and what they'd like to achieve the next day.

When you take a moment to reflect back upon the day, it centers you and gives you focus. You feel good about yourself and have a hopeful outlook for tomorrow.

VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

Virgos tend to do a "pre-sleep" fall asleep, meaning they are on the couch with their cats or dogs, watching TV, when they'll get into such a relaxed state that they'll fall asleep, only to be woken up by a loud commercial or their partner telling them to come to bed.

This way, since they're still groggy from their pre-sleep, they'll get into bed and pass out.

LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)

The best thing for Libra to do to fall asleep quickly is to read a book. Depending on how sensitive they are, it may be better for them to read a traditional hard copy book rather than on a Kindle.

If Libra reads for 30 minutes or longer, they'll practically fall asleep while in the middle of a paragraph. It works best if Libra goes from the book to the pillow without getting up and breaking up their flow.

SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

The best way for Scorpio to get to sleep quickly is to have sex, either with themselves or alone. This method may not work for everyone and may stimulate them to the point of non-sleepiness, but it works well for Scorpios.

It's helpful for them to release some sexual energy, and it relaxes them to the point where they may fall asleep instantly.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)

One thing that Sagittarius has learned the hard way is that if they take a nap, they won't get to sleep right away. So, they try never to nap, and when they go to sleep, they use a sleep mask and earplugs which alert their body that it's sleep time.

Sagittarians will also put their alarm clock or phone across the room so they can't see the time and don't worry about not getting the amount of sleep they need.

CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)

One of the things that ensures Capricorn will fall asleep quickly is have a bedtime routine they try to follow. They have dinner, do the cleaning up, do some work or watch TV, take a bath or warm shower, brush their teeth, meditate, and then read a little.

Of course, there are some times when their sleep schedule gets out of whack, but they try to put it back into place as soon as possible.

AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)

An Aquarian would have no problem using the latest sleep technology to help them get to sleep, but having an easily digestible snack also works for them. They might have some cinnamon toast or piece of fruit — nothing that's too hard to digest or that will cause indigestion.

PISCES (February 19 - March 20)

A Pisces will do some breathing exercises to help them relax before bed, and do some simple stretches so they've signaled to their body that it's almost time to go to sleep. If they have extra time, they may do some yoga and/or meditate a little — anything that centers and calms them.

Counting sheep is not good for Pisces because they tend to get too creative with it, and instead of shutting their mind down, it fills it with ideas.
