Feeling the luck!

On February 16th, we began the year of the dog in the Chinese zodiac. And because your Chinese horoscope differs from zodiac signs, the changes in your life will follow suit as well.

Someone born in the year of the Rat is born in the years 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008 and 2020. Chinese astrology doesn’t follow the Georgian calendar that we use to mark January 1st as the start of the New Year; instead, it follows the lunar cycles, which is why it’s celebrated later in the year, usually around February.

In Chinese astrology, we break down each animal sign into one of the five elements: gold, wood, water, fire and earth. These individual personality types occur only once in a sixty-year cycle, meaning that during this time frame, we would only see a wood Rat once. It is believed that a person’s personality is dictated by the sign and the element of the year of their birth:

  • The wood Rat (1924, 1984) is independent, confident, ambitious and creative.
  • The fire Rat (1936, 1996) is quiet, friendly but often too hard on themselves.
  • The earth Rat (1948, 2008) is honest, adaptable and has high self-esteem.
  • The gold Rat (1960, 2020) is smart, easily angered, and can be jealous in relationships.
  • The water Rat (1972) is a great communicator, shrewd, and often considered very wise.

Rats overall can be very energetic, adaptable, and can possess a strong sense of intuition. They are very charismatic and creative, easily attracting attention from the opposite sex. However, as lovers, they can often be fickle, changing their minds frequently, and following their emotional impulses. This can lead to them breaking up suddenly, or changing their vision of an ideal relationship, leading them to be difficult partners to plan a future with.

But the thing about this sign is that they are easy to fall in love with because of their friendly nature and luscious imagination. They tend to bring their partner into their fantasy world, leading their loved one to feel as if they are experiencing a type of love they haven’t yet experienced.

Rats are very observant of their lovers, and if they don’t let their selfish nature take over, their lover could end up feeling like their needs were fulfilled before they even had to voice them. This quick witted sign is adventurous but has a hard time focusing on one particular thing. They are great at seeing the details in front of them, but lack the ability to see the big picture.

Women Rats are usually very creative and skilled with their hands, and tend to have more delicate features, often described as being pretty. Male Rats tend to be slighter in stature and also good with their hands, but struggle with self-confidence and assurance. Both genders tend to be active and because of this are always looking for a better way to do something.

For Rats to settle down with just one person, they have to feel like there is enough change within the relationship that they won’t become bored or distracted by something or someone else. Rats also tend to gravitate toward those who seem to let them be themselves and are patient with their more difficult qualities.

Yet even with the tendency to get bored or be selfish, Rats have an uncanny ability to make life more interesting, and because of this they will often find themselves the center of attention and quite possibly in a relationship as well.

All around, it's looking like 2018 is on the side of the Rat. Career opportunities will be increasing, and while that does mean more work, it also means more financial and professional advancement as well.

During this time, Rats will find themselves being called upon by their supervisors and given greater responsibility as the year goes on. It seems that there will be a likelihood of working together on projects with co-workers, and with the natural personality traits of Rats, they will find great success in their careers this year. With the increase in career opportunities, it will also mean that this year will be an abundant one financially, with some possible unexpected cash flow or inheritance.

While it’s wonderful that our financial and career lives will find success this year, the real luck comes from the turn that our love lives will take during the course of the next several months. The previous year has probably been a rough one for Rats with several short relationships and subsequent breakups, and there also might have been the one that got away or some guilt associated with that. But all of that changes this year, especially for female Rats.

Because of the influx of financial gain for this year, the main love interest will be well off, yet you might not be aware of it in the beginning as he is unlikely to carry or portray himself as rich. Instead, he will appear as down to earth, possibly mysterious but very interested in pursuing a relationship even if at times his stubbornness seems to get in the way of that.

For men, just as much luck exists in love, except there could be obstacles; your partner may not know exactly how you feel about her. It seems that the relationship that will develop over the course of the next year may be different than any other relationship you’ve been in, so you will have to open up more than you previously did in your relationships.

Overall, 2018 is all about luck for the Rat — in career, financial gains and love. It’s a year that’s going to ask us to believe that we deserve all the good that is coming our way and to simply just believe in things finally going right. Because sometimes, luck is really just our hard work finally paying off.
