1. Police found his body after performing a ‘welfare check’ on the actor.

TMZ reports that in the early morning of January 30, Salling’s family reported the actor as a missing person and asked police to perform a welfare check. It’s unclear exactly how long Salling was missing.

Eventually, police found him at a little league baseball field near his home in Sunland, California. Police revealed that Salling had been dead for quite a while. According to police, Salling committed suicide by hanging. They reportedly found him hanging from a tree.

2. It may not be his first suicide attempt.

In October 2017, TMZ reported that Salling cut his wrists in August of that year after being indicted on child porn charges. According to the report, after slitting his wrists Salling began yelling for his roommate who called paramedics. He was treated and taken to a rehab for “psychological issues.”

3. He was awaiting sentencing for child pornography charges.

In 2015, Salling was arrested for child porn after an ex-girlfriend tipped off police, who subsequently found over 50,000 pornographic images and erotica exploiting children. He eventually pleaded guilty with the assist of a plea deal, which would bring sentencing down from 20 years to a maximum of seven along with restitution payments. Salling would also have to register as a sex offender which would prevent him from living within view of any place meant for people under the age of 18 — like little league baseball fields.

4. He was previously accused of sexual battery in 2013.

Back in 2013, a woman came forward to accuse Salling of sexual battery after he allegedly forced her to have sex without a condom. The woman, Roxanne Gorzela, claimed that she consented to sex with Salling but only with a condom, which he ignored and had sex with her anyway. She later confronted him, only to have him allegedly grab her and push her onto the ground.

According to TMZ, in 2015 the two settled in court to the tune of $2.7 million — which Salling’s insurance company would pay (not the actor himself), and Salling would reportedly receive a cut of.

5. He was accused of rape in 2016.

That was only the beginning of Salling’s legal troubles. Just a few years later, another woman accused Salling of rape. TMZ reported that the woman came forward four years after the rape allegedly took place, accusing Salling of having sex with her after she said she didn’t want to.

The Los Angeles District Attorney rejected the case “citing insufficient evidence.”
