getty Many people will tell you that good communication is key to a lasting relationship. And we all have our own ways of doing so. It’s a good idea to hone communication skills, especially when beginning a relationship, so you have an idea of how your partner feels.
If your partner is someone who doesn’t say much, you probably wouldn’t want to press them to reveal their secrets. Or, if their words seem to say something different than their actions, you’d want to know how to decipher their behavior.
Luckily, astrology is a good guide for all things in our lives, including how we communicate in our relationships.
Some people are gifted at communicating their thoughts and ideas. That's because our communication skills can be influenced by our zodiac signs, and knowing this is especially important in a relationship.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
One of the communication skills Aries has is that they tend to deal with issues and problems in a timely manner. Some call it The 24-Hour Rule, which is when you deal with a problem within 24 hours. That way, it's not hanging over everyone's head, growing more toxic until it becomes much worse.
Aries individuals would rather face a problem while it's still fresh than pretend it will go away on its own.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus uses physical contact as a way to communicate. It's not always sensual or sexual — just some kind of physical touch that lets the other person know Taurus cares.
It's always appropriate and doesn't cross any boundaries. It can be as simple as a hand squeeze, a hug, or a kiss on the cheek. Touching is very important to Taureans, and it's their way of giving comfort and support.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Royalty of communication, Gemini knows to use "I" statements when problems arise, and they don't assume they know what another person is feeling or what's going on their head.
They know how important it is to have an open dialogue without their partner feeling they're on the spot, or that they're the bad guy. Gemini's goals are to be able to discuss a problem without things escalating.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers strive to make their homes a comfortable place, and their communication skills reflect that. They make sure their significant other has a safe space and are free to talk about anything they need.
Cancers know that healthy communication can't exist in a place where there is already tension and negativity. Understanding is much more likely to happen in a peaceful and calm environment.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leos have a lot going on, and it's not unlikely for them to have their attention divided. They tend to have excellent communication skills and that translates when they give their partner their full attention.
It's not easy for Leo, especially when they enjoy being the center of attention, but for the sake of their relationship, they slow done and focus on what their partner needs.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Virgos are interested in what their partners have to say, and they convey this interest by not only listening, but by really hearing. When Virgo speaks, they ask relevant questions and say things that open up the conversation even further.
If their attention wanders, Virgo refocuses and listens even more carefully, picking up the nuances and verbal clues they might have missed.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
One of Libra's communication skills is their ability to look for the positives in a situation or see things from another perspective. They show their partner empathy and compassion, and try to put themselves in their partner's shoes before spinning out.
They want to think the best of their partner, so they will come into discussion open-minded. If there's a troubling situation with their partner, Libra won't decide anything until they hear their partner's side of the story.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpio's communication skills in a relationship focus not only on verbal communication but non-verbal signals as well. They listen to vocal inflections, tone, and observe what the body says.
Scorpios work on deciphering the real truth and discover what their partner may be too embarrassed or uncomfortable to say. This zodiac sign is gifted with an extreme attention to detail, and sometimes it's what the other person doesn't say that reveals the most.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Emails, DMs, texts, and even phone calls can distort what a person is trying to say, so Sagittarius tends to insist on face-to-face talk when it comes to important issues in their relationship.
They know they might not get their message across in the right way electronically, and even though real-time conversation can also be misinterpreted, there's a better chance of understanding when you're in the same room with the person you're talking to.
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
One of Capricorn's relationship communication skills is that they don't interrupt their partner when they're speaking. They stay engaged and wait patiently until they're done, and only then does Capricorn speak.
This zodiac sign tries not to plan in their head what they're going to say, or they might miss something important. Capricorn works at staying calm and not getting upset. Their relationship means a great deal to them, and great communication helps it last.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Not every conversation with your partner has to be serious or important. Aquarius knows it's talking about the little things that bond a couple together.
Aquarius will ask questions about their partner's day, share small pieces of news, or share an inside joke with their partner. Chatting and laughing are both stress relievers. And one of the best parts of being in a relationship is having someone to share your life with.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces tend to be extremely kind people, so it makes sense that they communicate with their partners using kindness. They try to address every issue coming from a place of sensitivity and understanding, and not accuse or blame.
They make sure their partners know they come from a place of love, and Pisces is creative enough to find a solution to nearly any problem in the relationship, even if it's it not readily apparent.
