Just because it’s a new month doesn’t mean our zodiac signs won’t have to deal with unfinished business from February, including love horoscope and romantic relationships. And Venus square Saturn, with Venus in Aries and Saturn in Capricorn, occurring on March 3rd is the perfect example of just that.

In life, it seems we run into the biggest issues or challenges within our life simply because we wished things were different than they are. But more than that, we continue to press into things, trying to mold them our way instead of just surrendering, accepting the truth, and letting ourselves be guided by life.

But it’s also about realizing that it takes work to create a life that we love, one that feels authentic and genuine. So, while we have to surrender, we also can’t cut corners, especially if we not only want things to be different this time, but also if we want to taste the sweetness from living a life based on truth and acceptance.

The life we have is directly proportionate to the life we have worked for. It's a perfect lesson from Saturn!

But in this case, with Venus in the mix, the love and relationship we have is directly proportionate to the amount of work we’ve put into ourselves.

Venus is the planet of love and all that is pleasurable with this life, while Saturn is known as the father of the zodiac. The planet that rules, time, karma, and even our personal boundaries.

Very often, our Saturnian lesson, depending on our birth chart and zodiac sign, is what we must work through and accomplish to step into our fate. In this case, though, we must understand that there is no fast track to success; there is no easy way to have that amazing love. It begins with the work with us, as well as the work and effort we’re willing to put into the creation of a relationship rooted in authenticity.

In astrology, a square is when two planets are within 90 degrees of one another, creating a sometimes hard or challenging aspect; in reality, it’s a square that creates a pinnacle moment, a choice of action or decisions in which we’re pushed to that limit of no return, and we need to take a step in a new direction.

The square between these two planets often occurs twice a year, so while the one occurring on March 3rd is the first, the second and final one for the year will be held in November, which means this energy we’re experiencing now may linger until then.

What it doesn’t mean, however, is that we’re doomed to be in this energy for the remainder of 2020; it only means it will be propelling us forward and helping us make those difficult decisions and choices about our lives — specifically our relationships. Venus square Saturn means we’re going to be feeling the cracks of those romantic relationships we are meant to let go of as we begin a new decade.

But it’s not necessarily going to be done for us, as Uranus or Pluto might. Instead, Saturn is about work, putting in the effort, and figuring out how to consciously end a connection so it’s healthy and friendly for both people.

Venus square Saturn is also about how much we’re willing to do for the love we want, even if there’s no guarantee of it occurring.

Are we willing not to leave an unhealthy relationship, or even just one we’ve outgrown with no promise of someone else to run to? Are we willing to leave simply to fall in love with ourselves, so we might be able to live our truth more deeply? The thing about the universe is that it rewards risk and taking a chance, even when that’s the last thing you want to do.

For many of us, we must get to that place where it’s not about leaving a relationship for someone or something else that looks better, but because it feels like we can no longer stay where we are.

While this has been the ultimate energy of February, it’s been difficult to see that when we’ve been brought back to the past so much with Mercury retrograde we’ve been experiencing. But on March 4th, Mercury shifts into Aquarius, and the end of his first retrograde period is almost here, which means we’re starting to see our own truth.

Sometimes there is the possibility of love, but that doesn’t mean we can seize it just yet. It doesn’t mean we’re ready for that possibility to be a reality, especially if we’re used to being in a relationship of any kind. Sometimes we just need to be by ourselves, to find out what we need within a relationship, what kind of partner we need, our thirst for life, what fuels us and what love means to us.

But the answer for ourselves can only be found when the only person we’re having a relationship with is ourselves.

So, perhaps that’s the biggest lesson this Venus and Saturn square is going to provide: we can’t skip the work and expect to get that reward.

And sometimes that work isn’t to jump back into another relationship. It’s not to explore that possibility of love, but to just do the work for ourselves, trusting that if something is meant to work out — likely later this year once Saturn moves into Aquarius from Capricorn, where he currently is — it will.

The love that is best for us is going to want (and need us) at our best, which means we must be willing to put that work in. To end what no longer resonates, to spend time with ourselves, to heal, and to learn there’s no bigger reward than knowing who we are, and loving that self unconditionally.
