Marriage Or Career: Which Is More Important To Your Zodiac Sign?

It’s an ideal that not many of us can live up to, especially since we have so many unrealistic expectations of what the “ideal” should look like. Life is never perfect, and we often fail to appreciate what we’ve got while we’ve got it.
Though we can check our horoscope looking for answers, when we're deciding on whether marriage or career should be our top priority, the zodiac signs differ on what they choose.
It can be difficult to find a healthy balance between marriage and a career. Most people spend at least a third of their adult lives at work, so it’s important to choose a professional path that is not only enjoyable and rewarding, but provides dependable financial security.
But is work more important than your home life? It seems like one always takes priority over the other.
Focusing too much on your job will make your partner feel resentful, and with good reason. However, if you try too hard to make them happy instead, you’ll lose momentum on your own projects and goals, and then you’ll be the one feeling resentment. Why do some people have so much trouble finding the sweet spot in between?
What will your zodiac sign choose?
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
Aries has a job to do, and they’re going to do it. They might not be single, but they’re very well-suited to being independent and are perfectly comfortable working alone.
Aries’ entrepreneurial spirit and endless drive to get their own way is inspiring, but anyone who wants to be their partner for life is going to have to either keep up or get out of the way.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
It’s a toss-up for Taurus, who wants financial security on one hand, and a comfortable home life on the other. Hopefully both of these hands can work together!
As a rule, Earth signs don’t tend to put a lot of emphasis on feelings or emotional attachments, but gentle, loving Taurus (ruled by Venus, the planet of romance and wealth) is often the exception. If they can’t have it both ways, though, Taurus’ desire for material wealth will probably win out over their desire for any connections of the heart.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Gemini needs other people in their life, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they need a life-long partner. In fact, because Gemini is so adept at flitting from one group to the next and adjusting their emotional attitude in an instant, anyone married to them might get pretty frustrated after awhile.
They’ll appreciate a spouse who keeps them grounded when they’re at home, but they need to be able to move through the world and make connections with lots of other people. If their home life becomes too restrictive, Gemini will just float away.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Of course Cancer will put their marriage before anything else—this sign rules the home and family. To Cancer, their family is their career.
They have a spiritual need to protect and nurture the people they care about. Even when single, Cancer tends to find people they can take care of. Outside the home, the perfect careers for Cancer include nursing, teaching (especially of young children) and cooking.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leo expects to be king or queen at home and in the workplace. They love attention and praise, so they’ll focus most of their energy and efforts wherever they feel the most appreciated.
Not every Leo needs to be world-famous (though most of them act like they already are). If Leo’s spouse can make them feel like the star of the show at home, they’re sure to focus their most positive energy on their romantic relationship. Marrying into royalty does have its perks!
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Emotions tend to make Virgo nervous. Intellectual and analytical, Virgo’s best partner is low-maintenance — someone who won’t complain when they’re buried in data and schematics.
Virgo is a problem-solver, but relationships can become a lot messier and more complicated than Virgo’s spreadsheets and category systems can handle. If their marriage creates too much stress for too long, Virgo will throw themselves into their career as an act of self-preservation.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
The master of equilibrium, Libra instinctively knows how to balance their life between home and work. They realize that both are important for a well-rounded life, and Libra would prefer not to have to choose.
Although Libra’s career track is probably suited to their skills, when it comes to relationships, the key phrase is “opposites attract.” Libra wants a true partner, someone who has traits and talents that they lack, balancing each other’s weaknesses and strengths.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpio is always a little bit in love with someone (or many someones), but they rarely fall so hard for one person that they would place them above their own interests. Scorpio already has a plan, and it doesn’t usually involve life-long commitments to anyone but themselves.
Driven and passionate (emotionally and otherwise), Scorpio can’t help following their own agenda. They see and understand the universe differently and more deeply than most other people do, and it would be difficult for them to spend their life with someone who’s not on their level.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Sagittarius can barely stand to stay in one job for very long, so how can they possibly stay interested in one person for an entire lifetime?
The essence of Sagittarius is to keep moving, keep learning, and always seek out new experiences. The best careers for Sagittarians are those that give them something new to do every day — traveling constantly would be an added bonus. That’s not to say that they’ll never find a life partner, but they sure aren’t going to “settle down” with anyone.
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
This sign rules the life-long career path in general, and this is Capricorn’s driving force. Capricorn’s spouse is just going to have to get used to them working long hours. Even when they’re trying to relax at home, part of their mind is always going to be at work.
Ambitious and dedicated, Capricorn is actually an excellent partner for someone who’s in it for the long haul and isn’t too concerned about romantic spontaneity. Capricorn doesn’t make commitments lightly. They take their marriage seriously, just don’t ask them to keep proving it.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Like Aries, Aquarius is an independent loner at heart. They can’t stand feeling trapped by anyone or anything. They’re always looking outward at the entire world, trying to see how to make things better for everyone, and they don’t have a lot of time or energy to devote to a personal romantic relationship.
Anyone who marries an Aquarius is going to have to be on-board with whatever causes they care most about. You’ll find that your marriage tends to thrive when you both focus on these activities. Re-hashing your feelings too often will just make Aquarius itchy.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces can’t live without an emotional connection. When Pisces loves someone, that person becomes the most important thing in their lives. They’ll be satisfied with whatever job happens to pay the bills as long as their relationships are spiritually satisfying.
Their lives revolve around their family and friends. Some signs have to be careful about bringing their work home with them, but Pisces often has to be guard against allowing their emotional relationships to interfere with their work life.
