15 Awful News Stories, Trends And Celebrity Deaths That Prove 2017 Was The Literal Worst

It was a rough year.

Every year has its ups and downs — and 2017 had a lot of downs.

Looking back at the events, technological advances, people and things that gained popularity, one can conclude 2017 was indeed, very different from prior years.

From natural disasters to sexual harassment, this past year was a whirlwind of events. Though there have been some happy times and some good moments (i.e. Beyonce's twins and the Dancing Hot Dog filter), it's time we faced the music. As a whole, this year kinda sucked. 

It was basically 365 days of this: 

I think we can all agree that we hope 2018 is a much calmer year.

So if you're like Taylor Swift and you can't figure out just why people are so upset about 2017, we've got some awfulness to remind you of: 

1. Donald Trump's presidency created a huge divide in our country.

Donald Trump finessed America into electing him to run the country for four years.

2. The Las Vegas shooting.

A man open fired on concert-goers from a hotel window at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, injuring over 500 people and killing 58.

3. Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma.

Hurricanes wreaked havoc on Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, causing severe flooding, deaths, extreme power outages, and more. Some areas are still trying to rebuild after the storms damaged millions of home and over 400 died as a result of this year’s hurricane season.

4. Tom Petty died.

We lost this rock icon to 2017. He died after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in October. May he rest in peace.

5. The “Cash Me Outside” girl.

Danielle Bregoli, the girl who got famous after trying to fight the audience on Dr. Phil, actually has followers. Her saying, “Cash me ousside, how bow dah,” went viral and we wish it hadn’t. Though she first went on the show in 2016, it was her second appearance in 2017 that made her a household name. 

She's now a rapper who goes by the name "Bhad Bhabie" — pronounced "bad baby." 

6. When rompers for men came out.

The worst part about the male rompers was that people actually bought them.

7. Chester Bennington committed suicide.

Rolling Stone 

The lead singer for Linkin Park took his own life in July after battling with depression.

8. Fidget Spinners were created.

If you have a kid or a kid brother, you get how insanely annoying these things are (especially when your kids start trying to do "tricks"). 

9. Kim Jong Un.

The entire predicament with North Korea is a nightmare. Americans have been dealing with nuclear war by creating memes and making fun of the communist.

10. California literally went up in flames.

The Thomas Fire in southern California is one of the largest wildfires the state has ever seen. It is destroying everything in its path and isn’t predicted to be contained until the beginning of January 2018.

11. The fact that we had to make a movement to stop sexual harassment and assault.

In wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal, many more victims came forward and shared their stories experiences with sexual assault and harassment. Everyone has helped the #MeToo movement gain traction, a movement that we shouldn’t need in this day and age, but alas, we do.

12. Szechuan Sauce.

Literal riots broke out about this discontinued sauce from McDonald’s that the show Rick and Morty reminded the world of.

13. The Patriots claimed another Super Bowl win.

Does anyone really like the Patriots?

14. This video of a starving polar bear.

2017 ripped my heart out. This video is heartbreaking.

15. Sex robots.

Why are sex robots a thing? Please, we need answers.
