There's more to him than you may realize.

I don't care about sports. I don't hate them, but they aren't my thing. If you love them, cool! I just don't.

That said, I'm not a rude asshole, so if someone likes sports and wants to talk to me about them, I will listen, smile, and probably learn something. So, while I might not be passionate about football, I understand how the game is played.

I also like saying tight-end probably way more than is healthy or normal, but hey, what are you going to do?

While I might not be passionate about sports in any real way, I am passionate about Colin Kaepernick.

I love the dude for real. If you don't know who is he, Colin Kaepernick is a football man. Currently, Kaepernick is a "free agent," which I guess is football language for "Colin does not currently play on a team." He used to play for the 49ers, a team from that city with the trollies and the rice.

When Kaepernick took a knee during the National Anthem at a game in protest of police violence people went nuts. They either loved his stance, or they hated him for it. Regardless, he has suffered from taking a stand: He's currently a football man without a team.

But Colin's taking a knee only scratches the surface when it comes to reasons why he kicks ass and takes names and is worthy of total love and devotion.

Here are 8 facts about Colin Kaepernick you should know:

1. He has faced tremendous obstacles.

Colin's mom was just 19 when she gave birth to him. His dad took off before he was ever born.

Eventually, his mother placed him for adoption. Their relationship has been a difficult one. Currently, they do not speak. But he is exceptionally close to his adoptive family

For many people, a rocky beginning in life can make for a rocky path overall. That wasn't the case for Colin. He credits his upbringing with the success he has had as a professional athlete.

It's basically a made for TV movie, but real.

2. He looks amazing naked

I mean, I defy you to disagree with me.

(That's him in the ESPN's 2013 "Body Issue.)

3. He took a stand against police brutality.

Colin Kaepernick made headlines everywhere when he refused to stand for the National Anthem at a football game.

Kaepernick wanted to draw attention to the rise in police shootings and the good work being done by Black Lives Matter

He is so passionate about the movement that his first million dollars he donated to the cause.

His politics have inspired other players, pro and amateur, and those involved with the game to be more political, too.

Jed York, the owner of the 49ers, was so inspired by Colin's donation he actually also donated one million dollars to this important cause.

He could have used his fame to hook up with hot girls and get free stuff, instead, he took a stand.

4. His faith is central to his life.

There is nothing hotter than a man with a strong spiritual life. Talking about his faith in an interview, Colin said:

“My faith is the basis from where my game comes from. I’ve been very blessed to have the talent to play the game that I do and be successful at it. I think God guides me through every day and helps me take the right steps and has helped me to get to where I’m at. When I step on the field, I always say a prayer, say I am thankful to be able to wake up that morning and go out there and try to glorify the Lord with what I do on the field. I think if you go out and try to do that, no matter what you do on the field, you can be happy about what you did.”

5. He is always giving back.

Colin was recently in the news again, this time for handing out his old suits to men leaving the parole office. He hopes that the new suits will make tasks like interviewing for a job much less intimating.

Listen, a lot of celebrities talk a big game when it comes to charities, but Colin is incredibly active when it comes to raising funds for causes closest to his heart.

His own charity, Kaepernick 7, has an amazing goal that encourages people to donate because of his own generous matching pledge. On its website Colin says "I will donate one million dollars plus all the proceeds of my jersey sales from the 2016 season to organizations working in oppressed communities, 100k a month for 10 months.”

But his charitable deeds don't end with his own organizations.

Colin recently donated loads of books, shirts, and hats to men's shelters and orphanages. A lot of players use the off season to rest, relax, and party. He's using his off season to make real change in a world that needs it badly.

Speaking of those in need, did I mention what Colin did when he learned about the historical devastating famine in Somalia that could leave 6 million people without food?

6. He looks amazing naked. Worth repeating.

I mean look at the naked man, for pity's sake!

Colin has never been afraid to speak up. He spoke up about Somalia when he felt the media wasn't doing a great job, and he took a major stand against police violence by refusing to acknowledge the National Anthem.

Even if you don't agree with the choices he makes, you have to respect the man for using his celebrity to promote causes that matter and to strive to make real change.
