The director is no longer in hiding and has resurfaced at French social events.

Infamous and award-winning Polish-French director Roman Polanski may not be able to show his face let alone step foot in the United States without being arrested, and hasn't since he fled in 1978 after being sentenced for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. But he is no longer in hiding and has been stepping out in the high-class French social scene.

Since he was freed from house arrest in Switzerland last July after officials there rejected a extradition request from the U.S., the 77-year-old director of Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist, has resurfaced in Paris and has been making the rounds at cultural events reports the NY Times. He first appeared at a cocktail party at the French Cinémathèque to mark the opening of a new exhibition, and then the following evening he and his son attended a dinner promoting another new exhibition at the Musée Marmottan Monet.

Of course we completely shun Polanski for his unforgivable actions, but it is not to say that he has not been through his own share of devastating events. Surviving the Holocaust as a young boy and then the murder of his second wife Sharon Tate by the Manson Family, Polanski is no stranger to tragedy. So somehow spending time with his son enjoying art so many years later does not seem like such a criminal offense. Right Or Wrong? Roman Polanski Speaks Out
