Is Prince Harry going bald?

He took his hat off and ... hmmm.

Is Prince Harry going bald? When he took off his hat after he and Prince William walked in toward Westminster chapel for his wedding to Meghan Markle, the sun seemed to glint off his skull. Now, as a ginger, that could be an illusion. Like blondes, lighter hair can give the appearance of pending baldness. But at 33, it seems a bit young for him to lose his hair — unless he's taking after his brother, Prince William, who's been sporting a bald spot for years now. But we did a bit of internet sleuthing and come to the conclusion that...

Yes, he is. A simple internet search of his engagement photos show that Prince Harry's hair is thinning at the very top of his head. Rumors of his possible balding have surfaced in the past. In a 2015 trip to New Zealand, a fan told him that he looked like his father. He replied: "I'm losing my hair like him, too!"

He's been good about hiding his impending baldness, but it's most definitely happening. Baldness is primarily passed down from the mother or more specifically, the X chromosome. The Spencer men don't seem to have any problems with their hair. However, male pattern baldness can be more likely to develop when a man's father and/or brother are balding. And Charles and Will are most definitely challenged in the hair department.

U.S. News and World Reports puts it this way:

"While the primary baldness gene is on the X chromosome, which men get only from their mothers, other factors are also in play. The hereditary factor is slightly more dominant on the woman's side, but research suggests that men who have a bald father are more likely to develop male pattern baldness than those who don't."

Hair grows, rests, falls out, and grows again in both men and women. When more hair falls out than grows back is when baldness starts to develop.

Prince Harry may have grown out his beard to compensate for the thinning hair on the top of his head. Either way, he still looks extremely dapper on his wedding day.
