A fall left her with a facial wound and broken wrist.

It's been almost six months since Carrie Underwood stepped away from the spotlight. The singer took a long hiatus to recover from a fall that caused her to suffer a broken wrist and multiple facial injuries, which required surgery and more than 40 stitches. Now Underwood is back in action and showed her face for the first time while performing live at the 2018 American Country Music Awards.

In a recent interview with The Bobby Bones podcast, the 35-year-old country crooner revealed more details about the night of her fall which led to the face scar.

The fall occurred when she was out walking her dogs. Underwood explained on the podcast, “I fell down, I was taking the dogs out and I just, I tripped. There was one step and I didn't let go of the leashes. Priorities! So, that’s why my left hand is fine. But, I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else I would’ve been perfectly fine. But, there was one step that messed everything up.” The fall also caused her to have several injuries around her mouth.

After her fall, the singer wrote a blog post on her fan site explaining why she was taking a break from the spotlight. “I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [her husband] that he had put between 40-50 stitches in,” she wrote. “Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same. I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” she wrote. “I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.”

Though Underwood stayed active on social media, she refrained from sharing any new photos of her face.

Now, she's finally ready to reveal her face to the world and explain more about the accident that led her to this moment.

Carrie continued saying to Bobby Bones that after the fall she “was at a point where I didn’t know how things were going to end up. I didn’t know what was going to go on. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like." She decided at that point that she owed to herself and her fans to reveal what she was dealing with so she wrote her blog post, and took a step back from being a celebrity, and focused on healing and trying to regain some normalcy in her life.

“I felt like it was important to me, as I started resuming my life again," she explained, revealing that it wasn't always easy going about her everyday life as she feared someone would leak photos of her face. "Going to the grocery store and taking my kid to school and stuff like that I was like, ‘Ok, someone’s going to creep on me at the grocery store and people are going to be like, what happened and post it on Instagram."

We're happy to see the Underwood happy and healthy and as beautiful as ever before.
