Face it: we all have a bit of the rebel within us, and while the majority of us, at times, feel the need to break away from social norms, some will, and some most definitely won't.
And just like in astrology, there are a few zodiac signs who refuse to abide by these so-called "standards.
Someone once said to me, "America is a banquet — you just have to know how to ask." I wondered what that meant, exactly, and then realized it's about how much nerve one has to break the rules.
Societal standards are strict, but law abiding. It's the law that keeps people in line, thankfully. But sometimes, the law doesn't provide what's needed at the time, so it would depend on the individual whether or not they can either stay put and do without, or reject society's rule in order to get what they need.
At times, we tend to blame society for holding us back; if you feel this way, you are bound to a set of rules that may or may not be natural to you. It's the person who sees no reason in following a standard that doesn't work for them, or their family, that is the true societal rebel.
The rebel is the one who doesn't conform, while it's the societal slave who fears repercussions.
So, who are the zodiac signs who don't adhere to societal standards?
1. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Gemini sees the societal standards and contemplates them. They want to fit in very badly, but they contradict themselves constantly, meaning every time a Gemini signs on for something "standard," they end up hating their lives for that decision.
They don't fit in well with any of the demands and standards society lays out for us, but they think they may be happier if they did, so they try. Unfortunately, they fail miserably at trying to do things the way others do, which makes them accidental rebels.
2. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
Oh, they know the rules alright. They know exactly what's expected of them, and if the standard suits them, they are happy to oblige, but no one cares less than Taurus about lining up to do what everyone else in the world does.
Very self-serving, Taurus will play nice if they want to, but you can't just influence that stubborn bull by throwing the rulebook at them; they will laugh you right out of the way. Society-shmociety — the only standards they live up to are the ones they create for themselves.
3. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Known as the sign of deep thinking and high emotion, we can't expect this natural-born rebel to fall in line; it's just not in their nature. If society demands they act in a certain way, they will act in the opposite way just to spite society.
If you tell a Scorpio they can't do something, that's exactly what they will do, just to show you that you can't rope them in. This sign not only rejects the standards of society, they purposefully stomp on it to show those around them that they have no intention of playing by the rules.
4. LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Interesting enough, while Libra desperately wants acceptance and approval, they are also extremely rebellious in so much as if they are asked to do something — anything — if it's not on their agenda, they are not doing it. Libra is a very creative sign, and often times, they find themselves having to dumb down for the sake of that acceptance they so crave.
The truth is, while they want to be liked, they will take a pass if it means they have to act according to some set standard for behavior. Libra won't adhere to standards, and while it may bother them, it won't change things.
5. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Nobody hates the rules, standards and expectations more than Sagittarius. If they have to do it, they find ways out of it. It's Sagittarius who will follow the beat of their own drum, again and again. Rules mean very little to them, and societal standards are a laugh riot to your average Sagittarius.
It's as if they're from another planet (Jupiter, actually) and the rules of Earth do not apply to them. And while that gets them ousted, rejected, made fun of, and ridiculed for their choices, they just don't care what you think. Society? What's that?
6. LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leo looks society squarely in the eye and spits in it. They enjoy being the rebel, and their rebellion is authentic. If they don't agree with whatever societal standard is being pushed on them, they reject it flat out, no questions asked.
Unlike signs like Virgo, who live in fear and can't move unless it's been approved by the society first, Leo doesn't even consider the standard to be a standard at all. Societal standards, to Leo, are somebody else's rules, and we all know by now that the King of the Jungle plays by no one else's rules.
