getty Being selective can work both ways — it can make you into a person who surrounds themselves in only what you find tolerable, or it can add to your life in so much as you are able to make the right decisions for yourself. Being selective is a survival mechanism; what we select is what we choose, and daily life is filled with choices.
But in astrology being one of the selective zodiac signs isn't about unilaterally doing the right thing. It's about doing the right thing "at the moment." It's about tapping into one's desire and choosing the exact compliment for that desire. If you desire the right meal, but you are selective about your foods, you wouldn't accept that which you wouldn't eat; you'd hold your ground until what was on your plate was wholly acceptable to you.
And we all know when we're in the presence of someone who is selective. They take their time making choices, and they won't go "your way" if they don't want to. Being selective makes these people efficient as well; they know what they don't want, and that makes things a whole lot easier.
1. CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Being brilliant isn't always easy, especially when you're surrounded by idiots... and that is how Capricorn goes about life. As one of the more selective zodiac signs, they choose boldly and with acumen. They KNOW what they want and they are extremely selective about getting it.
Don't get in their way though, because part of what makes them so adept at being selective is that they rarely select anything that will impede their progress.
2. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
This sign knows exactly what they want and they will go after it with vigor and one-pointed attention. This is a "take no prisoners" sign, and when they choose what it is they want, you can best believe their choice is not impulsive.
They do research and never dive in naively. Selective is the Taurus way, and they will get what they want — always.
3. PISCES (February 19 - March 10)
This super-sensitive sign is pretty selective, especially when it comes to how they construct their own personal pity party. Pisces loves misery, and they choose it at almost every opportunity.
If Pisces sees an opportunity to be the center of attention in a situation where the entire crowd will look at them and feel sorry for them, then count them in! They select pain and misery every time, and they will fight you for it!
4. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
While it nearly causes them brain aneurysms just trying to make a decision, Gemini is still one of the most selective signs of the zodiac. They love details, gadgets, reports — all the things one can rifle through when trying to make a decision on what to do or buy.
They love a good read-out, review or display, and when it comes to making that decision, they select with knowledge. They know what they want, and they always make sure they get it... their way.
5. AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Another very selective sign as long as it revolves around selfish choices. This group doesn't seem to know what compassion is, and so, when they "go for it" and select what they know will help their lives, they have no qualms whatsoever with mowing a person down, if that's what gets the job done.
Aquarius always chooses to serve number one — themselves — over anyone or anything on this planet.
6. VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Extremely selective, but not always pleasant, Virgo usually gets what they want the hard way: by making life so impossible for everyone around them that we all just give them what they want. Virgo is a complainer; nothing is ever good enough, ever.
So, when Virgo finally does select something they like — on the menu, in retail, in life choices — everyone rejoices just knowing they might not have to deal with their incessant complaining.
