Entertainment And News

Why did Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson break up?

In June 2018, Grande and Davidson shocked everyone when they got engaged just 24 days after they started “officially” dating. And despite their romance’s quick pace, their relationship admittedly did seem promising. They constantly shared about each other on social media, got multiple matching tattoos (which can either be the ultimate declaration of love or a harbinger of relationship disaster), and she even included a song called “Pete Davidson” on her most recent album, Sweetener.

However, in October 2018, Grande and Davidson broke up and called off their engagement. And while most people aren’t all that shocked to hear about the disintegration of their relationship, it does beg the question — why?

1. Their relationship moved too fast.

24 days. That’s how long it took Grande and Davidson to get out of their respective relationships, date, and get engaged. According to TMZ, the couple jointly decided that now is not the right time for their relationship. “It was way too much too soon,” a source reportedly close to Grande told People. “It’s not shocking to anyone.”

2. Mac Miller died.

Grande dated Miller for two years before she began seeing Davidson. In fact, Miller and Grande announced their breakup just a couple of days before Davidson and Grande became official and barely a month before the engagement news. And despite revealing on Twitter that her relationship with Miller was “toxic,” Miller’s September 2018 death has deeply affected Grande.

According to TMZ, Miller’s death was the final nail in Grande and Davidson’s relationship’s coffin. A source told TMZ that his death left the singer an “emotional wreck,” forcing her to realize that her relationship with Davidson was “rushed” and she wasn’t ready to fully invest herself into a marriage.

3. Ariana is depressed.

After Miller’s death, Grande apparently slipped into a depression. In a series of heartbreaking now-deleted tweets originally posted a couple of weeks following Miller’s overdose, Grande revealed that she was having an incredibly tough time living her day-to-day. “Can I pls have one okay day. Just one. Pls,” Grande wrote. “Nothing will ever b okay.”

Grande has recently taken some time out of the spotlight to deal with the loss of Miller and other issues like the bombing at her 2017 Manchester concert. “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” her team said in a statement in September 2018. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones

4. They could get back together.

Despite breaking up and calling off the engagement, a source told TMZ that the two still love each other. In fact, Grande was on the Saturday Night Live set supporting Davidson just a day before their breakup where sources told TMZ that the couple appeared just as close as ever.

According to TMZ, Grande and Davidson “aren't ruling out the possibility of anything in the future.”
