Watch out for squirting fruit.

If you were to hear a description of artist Stephanie Sarley's work, it would sound innocent enough. She sticks her hand into real fruit.

OK, there's nothing more wholesome and healthy than fresh fruit, but the deliberate way that Sarley fingers and touches the fruit makes all the different kinds of fruit appear to be colorful stand-ins for women's vulvas.

In a piece on The Daily Dot, writer Madeline Gobbo describes Sarley's art perfectly, saying, "A blood orange, halved, lying on a counter, carpels up. Two fingers enter the shot and begin to gently stroke the central pith. The strokes go deeper. Bright red juice splashes onto the fruit's flesh and rind. The fingers plunge into the fruit and you see bubbles form, froth, and pop. Then they withdraw, leaving behind a slippery hole."

The description, like the video, is strangely hot.

Is this blood orange video too graphic (even though it's just fruit), or is it OK for work?

Fingering fruit is now a thing used for educational purposes as well as art, and anything that properly instructs someone how to treat a woman's vagina is fantastic. If you're a beginner at fingering, maybe try first with a cantaloupe, that way you won't get any stinging juice in your eye.

Some people have voiced concerns that Sarley is wasting fruit. When asked if she eats the fruit a fruit shoot, she said, "If it's fresh I do. I get accused of food-wasting. I think it's just an outlet for people to complain. But I do eat the fruit. Sometimes I'll cut it up and put it in a salad."

The vibrancy of the color of the fruits — with their deep reds, oranges, and yellows — are captivating. The fruit glimmer and shine as Sarley caresses them with her touch.

When we're little we play with our food, and it continues to a greater or lesser degree as we get older. But Sarley makes the action of playing with food titillating and provocative.

Sarley didn't intend to become famous for fingering fruit. It began in a natural and organic way.

"My boyfriend handed me an orange and I just started playing with it, then decided to make a video," Sarley said. "The penetration and the blood... I wasn't aware of those associations. After I create an art piece, I'll learn about it through other people viewing it, or just through myself reflecting on it. I wasn't even aware of the impact it was going to have on people."

For an extra special effect, Sarley sometimes adds milk.

There are also times when more foreplay is needed to get a positive response.

Sarley has had trouble with Instagram shutting down her account and with people passing off her work as theirs.

"I didn't invent fingering fruit. But what I invented was a compelling video that meant something to people, about menstruation, and virginity, and sex and love," she said.

We all see art in our own unique ways. It's a true artist who can make us see common things in news ways and help us to learn more about ourselves. Stephanie Sarley is that kind of artist, and it's exciting to think about what new art pieces she'll create in the future.
