getty An awkward person feels uncomfortable around others, doesn’t know what to do with their body, or laughs at inappropriate times. These people also have trouble in social situations, becoming nervous and strange, as if disconnected from the person they belong to.
Sometimes, an awkward person feels ill at ease, even though they may seem perfectly fine to other people. However, the more uncomfortable and embarrassed the person feels, the more awkward they will appear.
Awkwardness tends to feed off itself and get worse. If you go into a social situation feeling awkward and try to contain it, suddenly you’re knocking people’s drinks out of their hands or freezing up when someone is trying to talk to you.
In astrology, the socially awkward zodiac signs may not be confident or self-assured, leading to embarrassment.
You can grow out of awkwardness, fortunately. In middle school, almost everyone goes through an awkward phase. Over time, you learn to become comfortable with your body and using your weakness for good.
Awkwardness can be endearing, especially because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes.
1. Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Since Virgo can be overcritical about themselves, they assume that everyone around them is just as judgmental and critical about them. Feeling as if you're being judged and coming up short is enough to make anyone feel uncomfortable and awkward.
When Virgo is feeling awkward, they tend to say the wrong thing, even if they tried to think of conversation topics beforehand and practiced their responses. They get in their head and it's difficult to relax and just be themselves.
2. Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces can come off as awkward because they're in their own head so much. They'll be daydreaming while people are having conversations around them, and when Pisces finally joins, they can't find the thread of the conversation.
When Pisces' feelings get hurt, they may not know how to handle the situation, so they get uncomfortable. They aren't like anybody else, and sometimes it makes them feel like they don't fit in. When that happens, they may be clumsy, and begin to panic about not knowing how to improve the situation.
3. Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
It's not unlikely for Capricorn to feel out of step with their contemporaries. They tend to have traditional values and like old-school things, so when they're in a social situation, they can feel gawky and kind of nerdy.
Capricorns don't realize that awkward is the new cool. They will try to work at being less awkward, which just makes them even more awkward, perpetuating the cycle. Capricorns need to not stress so much about how they come off and whether or not they fit in.
4. Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers are sensitive and tend to take things personally. If they're at a party and someone says the wrong thing and/or makes them feel insecure about themselves, it will come out as awkwardness. Cancer does better in social situations where they know everyone and are comfortable.
If they have to deal with a lot of people they've never met before, or tried things they're unfamiliar with, their discomfort will morph into social awkwardness. They may have trouble speaking and/or maintaining eye contact.
5. Aries (March 21 - April 19)
When Aries feels a certain kind of way, they'll often start saying things or getting into heated arguments. Much of the time, they'll say something insensitive, confrontational, or just plain wrong. This zodiac sign doesn't censor themselves, even when they should.
If they feel uncomfortable, Aries may ignore boundaries and piss people off. They have a lot of energy, and if that energy doesn't have somewhere positive to go, Aries can get nervous, fidgety, and clumsy. They tend to be more physically awkward than feeling awkward.
