It would be great if we never did anything wrong in our relationships, and all motivations were selfless and thoughtful. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, we’re still human and sometimes we turn our relationships toxic without any idea that we’re doing it.
We behave selfishly, we do horrible things, and we take no responsibility for our despicable deeds. Sometimes we just can’t help ourselves and we do something that has lasting negative results. And since astrology influences our behavior, it can be interesting to learn what the zodiac signs do that turns their loving partnership into a toxic relationship.
There are the big three relationship poisons: cheating, lying, and abuse, which can be tough for a relationship to come back from. However, there are smaller acts that, over time, can cause as much friction and stress: fault-finding, self-pity, not paying any attention to your partner, and having a negative attitude. When these kinds of behaviors happen every day, they can reverse all the good in a relationship.
It may take resolve to do better and not continue the toxic behaviors, or it may be a relationship makeover. Whatever it takes, the more hope you have and the more you believe your relationship can be repaired, the more likely it is that positive change will happen.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
Aries poisons their relationship by getting angry all the time. Their fits of anger may not last long, but they're intense and don't hold back with their words.
Anger shouldn't be anyone's first response, and overreacting, shouting, and cursing someone out all the time isn't going to endear you to your partner. Try to take a moment before reacting and think about the best way to express your feelings.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus can poison their relationship by holding onto grudges. If you have every mistake or wrongdoing your partner ever did right at the ready, it's going to cause tension in the relationship.
Bringing up old hurts when you're arguing about something unrelated isn't fair and will only make things worse. Sometimes you need to let things go for the sake of your relationship. Learn how to forgive and forget.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Gemini can poison their relationship if they talk more than listen. We love the sound of our own voices, but if you never give anyone else the chance to voice their opinion, including your partner, there will be tension.
Gemini will talk over their partner, cut them off mid-sentence, and turn the conversation around to their issues without their partner being heard. Gemini knows how to carry on a balanced conversation and not be a narcissistic conversationalist, they just need to slow down and remember it.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers can poison their relationship when they take everything personally and are offended by it. Not everything is about them, and sometimes one needs to assume something isn't an attack on your character or evidence that you're not being respected the way you want.
If your partner feels as if they need to manage you, how can they feel comfortable enough to tell you the truth of their feelings?
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leo can poison their relationship by always insisting on getting their way. A relationship involves giving and taking, not just taking. Getting your way all the time means your partner never gets their needs and desires met, and it can make them feel unworthy or like an equal partner.
No one should always be in charge. There should be a shared responsibility, and both parties should feel as if their voice matters.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Virgo can poison their relationship by insisting on always being right. Yes, you know a lot, but so do other people. When you never try to see things from your partner's perspective or you make them feel stupid for disagreeing with you, that can cause your relationship to become toxic.
If your partner insists that they're right, don't act like their opinion is an act of betrayal. Their ideas are valid, even if you don't agree with them.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Libra can poison their relationship by pretending that everything is great when it's not. Instead of expressing their thoughts, Libra sucks them down and then gets angry when their partner doesn't realize there's a problem.
While it may not be Libra's intention to poison the relationship by not being honest about their feelings, that's what can happen. Your partner doesn't expect you to be happy all the time; you're not a robot, so go ahead and say what you feel.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpio can poison their relationship by going overboard with saying no. Saying no isn't a bad thing unless you say it without thinking about it first. Mechanically saying no because it's easier or because you want to be in control of everything isn't healthy.
You may not be forced to do something you don't want to do, but on the other hand, are you considering your partner in your decision? There are times when, for the good of your relationship, you've got to compromise and do something for them, even if it's not something you'd normally do.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Sagittarius can poison their relationship by looking for excuses to get out of it. Relationships are hard, and sometimes Sagittarius would rather do anything else than have to work on it. So, instead of fighting for their relationship, they will focus on everything that's not working for them and give evidence on why the relationship is doomed.
Sagittarians are optimists at heart, so why not look at what's good or what's fixable with your relationship before throwing it away?
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Capricorns can poison their relationship by constantly criticizing their partner. No one likes to be judged and found failing all the time, especially your partner.
Holding them to unreasonable standards and having sky-high expectations isn't fair to them, especially if you don't hold yourself to the same. If you see mistakes or weaknesses as personality flaws, you need to rethink your position and give your partner some slack.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Aquarians can poison their relationships by being closed off and aloof. Rejecting someone when they need to express their emotions isn't kind and it can be damaging to your relationship.
Your partner needs to feel safe and secure enough with you to say what they're feeling, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. When you act cold and unfeeling, it prevents your partner from feeling close to you. Show them that you've got a heart underneath after all.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces can poison their relationship by complaining all the time and never accepting any solutions. Listening to someone complain all the time is exhausting.
Try to change your perspective, and instead of dwelling on the negative, find the upside of a situation. Just because something didn't turn out as you expected, it doesn't mean it won't happen at all or that something better won't come along.
