Who Is Francia Raisa? New Details On Selena Gomez's Former BFF, Who Gave The Singer A Kidney And Why They're Not Speaking

She gave her then-best friend a kidney when she needed it most. Yet, the latest reports suggest that not only are she and Selena Gomez no longer speaking to one another, but they're actually actively beefing with one another. And that's a very sad state of affairs for two people that were once the best of friends. Who is Francia Raisa?

Let's look at what we know about this lovely lady and her unfortunate fallout with Selena Gomez.

1. Francia Rasia donated her kidney to Selena Gomez in the summer of 2017.

According to OK! Magazine, Francia Rasia — one of Selena Gomez's best friends — donated a kidney to her in the summer of 2017. At the time, the Grown-ish actress wanted Selena to make better choices for her health, especially since she was getting what many considered a "second chance" at life.

But Selena and Francia aren't talking right now. "Selena is in a better place now than she was back then, obviously. But because of everything that they’ve been through together, Selena doesn’t know if she can ever really be a part of Francia’s life again," reported the outlet.

2. Selena Gomez suffers from lupus.

According to Self Magazine, the reason Selena Gomez needed a kidney transplant, which her best friend provided, was because she suffers from lupus, a chronic and debilitating condition that affects the immune system.

"Lupus is an autoimmune disease, meaning it causes your body's immune system to attack your own organs. A diagnosis of lupus nephritis indicates that the condition is affecting your kidneys, which can lead to kidney failure. At that point, the National Institute of Health explains, kidney dialysis or a transplant are often required," reported the outlet, who added that it was because of this diagnosis that Francia donated one of her kidneys to Selena.

3. Selena Gomez has also tried to use her celebrity status to educate fans about lupus.

According to Everyday Health, Selena Gomez had difficulty accepting her lupus diagnosis in the beginning, but now that she's accepted that she has the disease, she has used her celebrity status to raise awareness of the disease.

"Growing up in the spotlight can be tough — just ask Disney-star-turned-pop-singer Selena Gomez. The 26-year-old has been candid about the challenges that come with the attention (and has taken a couple of social media hiatuses to deal, as she explained in a 2018 Instagram post preceding one such break). But Gomez has also embraced her celebrity as a way to educate fans about being diagnosed with and living with lupus, a sometimes debilitating chronic condition," reported the outlet, who added that Gomez also suffers from depression, like many other lupus sufferers.

4. Reportedly, Selena Gomez and Francia Rasia had a falling out because Selena was making "unhealthy choices."

According to Radar Online, Selena Gomez and Francia Rasia haven't spoken to one another in almost a year because Selena was reportedly making "unhealthy choices."

"A source told Radar that the troubled star’s drinking and partying led to the rehab stint. Just months after her life-saving kidney transplant surgery, Radar reported Gomez was spotted drinking alcohol at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York," reported the outlet, who added that it was this move that caused Francia Raisa to stop speaking to Selena Gomez.

5. Can their relationship be saved?

According to Canoe, there's some question as to whether Selena Gomez & Francia Rasia can ever get back to the friendship they once had.

“Selena did the exact opposite of what she said she was going to do when she got well again. She said she was not going to drink anymore. Francia called Selena out on it because she cares about her and she loves her. She told her that she was just really making some unhealthy choices and that she was concerned for her,” reported the outlet, who said that Selena copped an attitude with Francia about the situation, and the two haven't spoken since.

6. Francia Rasia is living her best life, regardless.

According to Refinery29, even though Francia Rasia and Selena Gomez are no longer on speaking terms, Francia is still living her best life as an actress and influencer.

"I tend to feel insecure once a month around that time," she says, referring to her menstrual cycle. "I just get really down about myself, about everything. I cry, I journal, and I call my therapist." But at the end of the day she gets herself to shake it off and "go back out there," she said, according to the outlet.

We sincerely hope for the best for these two!
