People in codependent relationships might not be able to see the signs while they're in the thick of things. You may have a feeling that your relationship isn’t good for you or healthy, but you bury your feelings, thinking that your relationship might improve over time.
What is codependency?
As explained by Shawn Meghan Burn, Ph.D., “Codependence is an imbalanced relationship pattern where one partner assumes a high-cost ‘giver-rescuer’ role and the other the ‘taker-victim’ role.”
A codependent relationship is when you rely on the other person for their approval. You need that approval in order to be happy.
And according to astrology, there are some zodiac signs who end up in codependent relationships due to their personalities. And it's not just based on your horoscope.
You may not like who you are when you’re in a codependent relationship, but you may not know how to get out of it or how to have any other kind of relationship, so you stay. But the longer you do stay, the harder it is to get out or hold on to your sense of self.
Often when we’re in a codependent relationship, we don’t speak up. We let our partner get away with bad behavior because we don’t want to upset them, or we don’t think they’ll change anyway.
But that doesn't mean we don’t get angry or upset when our partners act like jerks. We do, and we often express it, though not always in the most productive of ways. Trying to guilt someone to change isn’t very effective, nor is wishing they’ll be better without taking any action to get them to change.
For a better understanding of how codependency plays out, here's the scoop on the 5 zodiac signs most likely to be in codependent relationships, according to astrology.
1. CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers tend to be in codependent relationships because they always want to know what their partner is doing or thinking. For Cancer's partner, it may feel as if Cancer is trying to control their every move and must monitor them to do so.
Cancers are also extremely sensitive to their partner's mood, and if their partner is in a bad or sad mood, it won't be long until Cancer is feeling the exact same way. If Cancer's partner is in a bad way emotionally, they will take it personally and believe they were lacking in some way.
2. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Geminis tend to take on their partner's issues, causes, and responsibilities as if they were their own. On one hand, Geminis are great advocates but sometimes they lose sight of what's important to them.
They may put their own needs on the back burner so they can take care of their partner and make sure they're happy and fulfilled. It's not healthy when Gemini diminishes their own feelings and thoughts so they can focus on their partners.
3. LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Libras tend to find partners that aren't as responsible or mature as they are. If Libra's partner is immature, Libra may spin it and think of them as fun, spontaneous, or youthful. If Libra is stuck being the responsible one, they'll take that roll on gladly.
If Libra is confronted by someone outside the relationship about the unequal division, they will make excuses for their partner and focus on the other positive qualities they might have. It helps if their partner is attractive because Libras can be superficial.
4. PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces like to take on projects — they love to become involved with someone who they believe needs their help so that Pisces can "fix" them. It's not unlike them to get involved with someone who has an addiction like drinking, gambling, or shopping.
When Pisces' partner hits rock bottom or needs a second chance, they know that Pisces will always be there to bail them out and help them in any way they can. They like feeling needed and as if they are saving someone.
5. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
When a Scorpio falls in love, they fall hard and they're willing to accept almost any behavior to make the relationship work. Sometimes it may feel to Scorpio that they never get their way, but they'll rationalize it to themselves that it's worth it.
Scorpios get wrapped up in the romance and passion of a relationship to the point where they may not be honest with themselves. If their partner wants to go out all the time and Scorpio wants to stay in, Scorpio won't demand that they come to a compromise; instead, they will bend to their partner's will, thinking that it's worth doing something they don't want to do as long as their partner is happy.
