I’m sure that all my exes would agree that I’m an incredible ex-girlfriend. Well, maybe not all of them, but one would for sure.
I know that with some of our breakups, there were some harsh words said and some actions that could never be taken back, but once all that animosity had died down, we were able to stay friends.
While it’s true that some of my ex-boyfriends seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth, it’s not because of anything I did. People move on and you lose track of them; it’s no big deal. You can’t keep tabs on everyone via their social media, and sometimes they block you.
I unfriended one of my exes, not because we hated each other or didn’t get along but because he rewrote our history. It wasn’t a perfect relationship by any stretch of the imagination but it wasn’t the worst.
But in his mind (at least, how I’ve rationalized it), he couldn’t be 100 percent with the woman now in his life without throwing me under the bus. After a couple of Facebook posts on how horrible all his exes were (myself included), I felt the need to remove him from my feed.
We all handle the ex-girlfriend status differently and the way we act as ex-girlfriend is constantly changing. Sometimes you’re fine if you never ever need to see your ex again, and when you have the bad luck to run into them, you implode a dozen different ways.
Sometimes it’s easier to distract ourselves from the breakup rather than dealing with it head-on. Perhaps you throw yourself into a bunch of different projects or maybe you up your dating game — anything to push out the memories of your ex. You might feel better creating lovely revenge scenarios in your head that are fun to imagine but that you’d never carry out.

ARIES: You're the ex-girlfriend they regret losing.

It doesn't take long for your ex to see that they made a huge mistake in letting you get away and part of that is how you seem to have easily moved on from them. Your ex is going to see how much fun and excitement you brought into their life and how they're never going to have someone like you again. It hurts all the more that you still treat them like a friend as if your breakup didn't affect you at all.

TAURUS: You're the ex-girlfriend that's done.

You don't see any reason to go over what went wrong and what went right with your relationship. It was never going to work out and you knew it — you've been preparing for the end for months. You don't see any reason to pursue a friendship; if it happens, great, if not, no biggie. If you do stay in contact, that doesn't mean there's a chance of reconciliation because you don't make the same mistake twice.

GEMINI: You're the ex-girlfriend that's on repeat.

You break up, you have some fantastic ex-sex, you get back together again, and so it goes. Sometimes you're the one instigating the breakups because you're bored and sometimes you're not. When your ex breaks up with you, you take it as a challenge to get them back again. The truth is you're not so great being in a long-term relationship so if you break up and come back together, it's as if you're starting a new relationship with someone you know really well.

CANCER: You're the clean break ex-girlfriend.

Breakups destroy you and it takes a lot of self-care and talk therapy to get you over it. The last thing you want is for your ex to string you along in any way. No breadcrumbing for you. You want a clean break and then you want to completely erase them from your world. You unfriend, unfollow, and delete any and all contact information. Your mutual friends are forbidden from mentioning your ex. If you run into your ex at the grocery store, you'd avoid them by pretending to be fascinated by the cereal box in your hand.

LEO: You're the disbelieving ex-girlfriend.

You can't believe that he'd let you go. Is he blind? Does he not see how fabulous you are? If you instigated the breakup, he should have fought harder to save the relationship. Does he really think he's going to find anyone like you again? Unbelievable. Well, he's going to be sorry when he sees someone else on your arm and you hope it feels like a dagger to the heart. And yes, you mean to be that dramatic.
VIRGO: You're the victimized ex-girlfriend.

You don't understand how your ex could have hurt you in such a profound way. You tried to be the perfect girlfriend. Whenever they needed you, you were there ready to do what needed to be done. It's going to take you a long time to process the situation and you'll be tempted to make it all your fault, but it wasn't. There's nothing you could have done; this relationship just wasn't meant to be. You're going to need to take some time to heal but the first step is to take the power away from them and stop being the victim.

LIBRA: You're the fake ex-girlfriend.

You act like nothing is wrong and that everything worked out as it should have, but inside you're seething. When you think about your ex, you call them every nasty, mean name that you can think of, but when you're in a social situation, you're just as light and charming as usual. You believe that if you fake it long enough, you'll get over it and be able to see that this relationship was just a speed bump on the road of your incredible life. Smile even though your heart is breaking, right?

SCORPIO: You're the plotting ex-girlfriend.

You're going to get your ex back into your arms, and if you can't, then you'll just get them back. You don't want to resort to revenge but getting dumped doesn't sit well with you; in fact, in infuriates you. The chances that your ex lied to you are good and that just makes you even angrier. You want them to be sorry that they ever messed with your heart, and one way or another, they will be.

SAGITTARIUS: You're the out of sight, out of mind ex-girlfriend.

You're not one for dwelling on things for too long. Your relationship was fun, it's over now, so it's time for something new. Maybe you'll change your hair or where you live or maybe you'll just hop on a plane and go somewhere you can make some new friends. You didn't want to get tied down anyway which is why it was probably you who initiated the breakup. It was fun but it wasn't the greatest love you'll ever have.

CAPRICORN: You're the relieved ex-girlfriend.

Honestly, you knew they weren't the one but you didn't want to hurt them so you stayed in the relationship. Now, you're free to find someone more appropriate and make a better choice because everybody knows that your ex was all wrong for you and that you were bored out of your mind. You must promise to be a little more discriminating when it comes to people to have relationships with. It's not enough if they really like you and think you're amazing when you don't feel the same excitement about them.

AQUARIUS: You're the never look back ex-girlfriend.

As long as you don't have to go over every single emotion and what each of you did to hurt the other, you're good. No reason to spend excess energy on rehashing a failed relationship. It's over and it's time to move on for the both of you. You may think about your ex from time to time but without much emotion; they never could keep up with you and your genius mind.

PISCES: You're the second chance ex-girlfriend.

If they want to come back, that's okay with you. You're always one to give people second chances and that includes your ex. While you may not have learned the lesson that you needed to learn the first time, chances are good that you won't the second or third time either. You're just too trusting and you believe with all your heart that people will change and that, at their core, they're good. When you get hurt again, you'll try to channel your pain into a special project or your art.
