People Who Are Mental & Emotional Geniuses Usually Say 10 Phrases In Casual Conversation
Miljan Zivkovic | Shutterstock True mental and emotional geniuses aren't boastful by nature, but you can usually tell just how intelligent someone is by the language they use in everyday conversation.
Smart people often keep their intelligence levels low-key. They don't need a complex vocabulary because they know it's more important to meet people where they are, and know exactly how to do so. Some phrases they use regularly show just how thoughtful they are in addition to being brilliant.
Phrases that people who are mental and emotional geniuses usually use in casual conversation:
1. 'I don't think that's what's happening here'

Most people can't help but get off topic, especially during an intense conversation. But not true mental and emotional geniuses. They know how to control their emotions in even the most heated situations.
Since they have such a firm grip on reality, it's no surprise that they say, "I don't think that's what's happening here," when other people start losing their cool. They're able to see both sides and are masters at keeping the peace.
2. 'What do you think?'

Truly smart people are humble to their core. Unlike those who are overly confident, intelligent people aren't afraid to admit when they're unsure about something. This is why geniuses often ask others what they think.
Smart people know that things aren't always so black and white. They understand that it's much better to talk to others than assume they know everything.
3. 'That's not the real issue here'

Highly intelligent people are too focused on the core issues to waste time getting caught up in unnecessary details or puzzling over the hypotheticals. Because of that, they're quick to say, "That's not the real issue here."
It's not to be rude. They're just cutting through the nonsense. This is why they often steer the conversation to focus on the facts, which ultimately leads to more productivity.
4. 'I could be wrong, but...'

Geniuses don't assume they're smarter than others. That's why, despite being so intelligent, they often say, "I could be wrong, but...," when they share their point of view.
Smart people don't claim to know everything. Rather than pretending they do, smart people are open to being wrong and actually invite people to let them know when they are.
5. 'Let me think for a moment'

Smart people almost always have a lot on their minds. With so much information to process in so little time, a go-to phrase they love to use is, "Let me think for a moment."
While stalling isn't always ideal, they know that rushing decisions rarely makes anything better. Recklessness often leads to more problems than it's worth. This is why they pause and take a second to analyze, especially during collaborative conversations.
6. 'That's a good point'

Unlike some people, mental and emotional geniuses aren't afraid to say, "That's a good point," when confronted with one. Open-minded and eager to learn, they aren't pressed about allowing others to shine.
Quite the opposite, actually. They want others to give their two cents. Knowing that it'll make the conversation flow more easily, the more information you give a genius, the more praise you'll receive.
7. 'That's not my problem to fix'

Emotional geniuses can recognize a problem while also knowing when it's not their problem to fix it. And they have no trouble telling anyone when that's the case.
While they'd probably love to help in most instances, smart people know their energy is limited. So they choose their battles wisely. This is why smart people mind their business. It isn't evil. Minding your business means knowing when to separate yourself from another person's situation.
8. 'What happened before that?'

Most people love listening to gossip, to be honest. But oftentimes, they don't ask the right questions to get the full story. Unless they're a mental and emotional genius, whose first question is often, "What happened before that?"
These people feel like they have a duty to hear the full story before casting judgment. Not knowing the full story means you're unable to analyze the situation. This is why geniuses push their feelings aside and get digging. Geniuses get their facts straight before reacting.
9. 'I can see why'd you feel that way'

People with a lot of emotional and mental intelligence are highly attuned to others. Able to read people on the fly, it's no wonder they can understand different perspectives so easily, which is why you'll often hear them say the phrase, "I can see why you'd feel that way."
Smart people don't have to agree with you to understand you. As psychotherapist Nancy Colier, LCSW, Rev., said, "we don’t need to agree to be in harmony, but we do need to be willing to understand another person’s experience and actually hear their truth." This is why geniuses always keep an open mind and are willing to be challenged.
10. 'Let's test that out'

You can't talk about a smart person without mentioning their natural curiosity. Those with high intelligence are always eager to learn more. Especially if it's a topic they haven't touched before, a go-to phrase for them is, "Let's test that out."
Unlike some people, geniuses push boundaries and test hypotheses. The closer they start getting to the answer, the more curious they become.
