We are given the opportunity to see the Moon at its brightest level, which is called a Full Moon. Each time this happens, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sensation coursing through my mind and spirit.

Perhaps it is because I’m a writer and while the Moon is at its brightest, I feel my creativity heighten. Lots of people may feel an overflow of emotions, whether good or bad when the Moon is out.

If you’re a firm believer in human beings made of stars, then this might be another reason we feel deeply when these phenomenons occur.

We are in for a real treat as there will be two Super Moons for us to gaze upon. If you didn’t get a chance to see the first of the year (the Wolf Moon) on January 10, don’t worry.

We’ve compiled a full list of all Full Moons this year (by month, and what each means) for the 2020 calendar year.

When is the next Full Moon in March 2020?

The Full "Worm" Moon in Virgo is on March 9

The month of March has a “Worm Moon” and no, that does not mean the craters on the Moon will resemble a worm. During this time, the weather begins to shift from the brutal cold to light breezes and sunny skies.

Because of the seasons starting to change, the soil melts from the winter months and allows earthworms to come above ground. As stated in The Farmer’s Almanac, “the Earth experiences a re-birth as it awakens from its winter slumber.”

When is the next Full Moon in April 2020?

The Full "Pink" Moon in Libra is on April 7

April’s Pink Moon gets its name because of a flower that begins to bloom in the early weeks of Spring; it is called the Wild Ground Phlox and has a beautiful pink color. It is unfortunate the Moon won’t capture the pink hue.

There are other names associated with the Pink Moon such as, “Sprouting Grass Moon,” “Fish Moon,” and “Hare Moon.” The reason for these names is because of birds laying their eggs, fish becoming plentiful and the grass sprouting.

When is the next Full Moon in May 2020?

The Full "Flower" Moon in Scorpio is on May 7

According to The Farmer’s Almanac, May’s Full Moon got its name because of “increasing fertility, with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom.”

This Moon got the name for the obvious blooming of flowers, and also because all of this means a new season is beginning, meaning new opportunities. Other names for May’s Moon are “Mother’s Moon,” “Milk Moon,” and “Corn Planting Moon.”

When is the next Full Moon in June 2020?

The Full "Strawberry" Moon in Sagittarius is on June 5

This Moon will be at its “apogee,” which means its distance from the sun will be further than a regular Super Moon; it will be the smallest Moon of the year. Native Americans gave the Moon this name because June is strawberry season.

Regardless of its name, the Moon will not be big and red. Other names associated with the June Moon are “Honey Moon,” “Mead Moon,” and “Hot Moon.”

When is the next Full Moon in July 2020?

The Full "Buck" Moon in Capricorn is on July 5

July’s Full Moon gets the name because, during this time of year, buck’s antlers are in full growth. Another name for this Moon is the “Thunder Moon,” because of the frequent thunderstorms during this time of year.

This month also has historical significance, from Neil Armstrong becoming the first man to step on the Moon to the ashes of American geologist Eugene Shoemaker being spread on the Moon. One other name for July’s Full Moon is the “Full Hay Moon.”

When is the next Full Moon in August 2020?

The Full "Sturgeon" Moon in Aquarius is on August 3

August is the time of the season where the seas are full of species, especially in major bodies of water. Also, the lake sturgeon fish is the biggest in North America. It is also referred to as the “Red Moon” because as it rises, it has a reddish hue.

I feel like the name of this Full Moon brings awareness to the endangered sturgeon fish. It is rapidly declining in numbers due to pollution and damage to their habitats. Other names for this Full Moon are “Grain Moon,” “Fruit Moon,” and “Barley Moon.”

When is the next Full Moon in September 2020?

The Full "Corn" Moon in Pisces is on September 2

The Full Moon of September gets its name due to the harvesting of corn and other vegetables/grains. When the Full Moon happens near the autumnal equinox (September 22 or 23), it is also referred to as the “Harvest Moon.” Other names for this Full Moon are “Barley Moon,” and “Harvest Moon.”

When are the next Full Moon(s) in October 2020?

The Full "Hunters" Moon in Aries is on October 1

The October Full Moon has “hunter” in its name because this is the time of year when hunters are on the hunt for deer and foxes. Without shrubs or trees to hide behind, the prey are easier to hunt.

During this time, the Moon is brighter and stays lit for a long period through the night, which makes it easier for hunters to spend more time outside hunting. Other names for this Full Moon are “Dying Grass Moon,” “Travel Moon,” and “Sanguine Moon.”

The Full "Blue" Moon in Taurus is on October 31

Because the month of October has two Full Moons this year, the second is called a “Blue Moon.” A Blue Moon is an extremely rare occurrence, as it happens only 2.5 to 3 times a year. This is where the phrase, “once in a blue Moon” originated.

The Moon will have a bluish color to it due to smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere. The Blue Moon does not have any other names for it.

When is the next Full Moon in November 2020?

The Full "Beaver" Moon in Gemini is on November 30

November’s Full Moon is named the “Beaver Moon” because beavers are usually collecting wood for the dams they will build before the ice freezes over. Hunters were also known to set beaver traps near their dens to collect fur for the coming winter.

Because of how cold it starts to get in November, the Full Moon of November is often called the “Frost Moon.”

During the month of December, most nights are longer, darker and colder, hence its name. Most Native American tribes have also referenced the Full Moon as the “Long Nights Moon” when it occurs near the winter solstice. Other names for this Full Moon are “Moon Before Yule,” and “Oak Moon.”

When was the Full Moon in January 2020?

The Full "Wolf" Moon in Cancer is on January 10

The Native Americans recorded time a special way during their time period. Instead of keeping track of what month they were in, they observed the seasons and lunar months. They gave names to each Full Moon to keep track of every passing year.

The January Moon is called a Wolf Moon. The name came from actual wolves and their howls. It has been said that during the first few weeks of the new year, wolves tend to howl very loudly. When wolves howl, they point up toward the Moon, and that is because of sound traveling farther.

When was the Full Moon in February?

The Full "Snow" Moon in Leo is on February 9

According to The Farmer’s Almanac, the “Snow Moon” or “Hunger Moon” gets its name because, during the month of February, there is heavy snowfall. While the snow is at its strongest, it would be harder to hunt during this time.

This was the second Super Moon of the year, which means the Moon will look particularly fuller and brighter. Other names for the Snow Moon are “Bone Moon” and “No Snow in The Trails Moon”.
