Why assign a number to represent the Devil? It all leads back to Biblical times when Greeks would use numerology to add up all the letters in someone's name.

This practice is called Gematria – weird word, but it helps to understand how the number 666 came to be.

In the book of Revelations, the apostle John said that if a person has true wisdom they can see the identity of the Antichrist.

The true wisdom comes when someone is able to identify the number 666, as it relates to the Antichrist.

Turning the Antichrist's name into a number was the best way to truly seek out its name without actually saying it aloud.

According to Revelation 13:18, "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

The beast refers to the Antichrist.
