In some ways, aren't we all part of Taylor Swift's girl squad? We root for her. We want her to be happy. We want her to fall in love — and stay in love. We've been around the block with her and Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles, Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston and Conor Kennedy — to name just a few. It is time our girl found someone who can appreciate her for all her sweetness, talent and quirks. Is that person her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn? Taylor has handled this relationship differently. She's been way more private about it. The two have been dating since 2017 and they haven't even walked a red carpet together yet. Is this an older and wiser Tay-Tay? If you've got the time to do some digging (and we do), there's plenty to discover about Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's relationship, so let's take a look at five of the weird things about Taylor Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

1. That whole privacy thing

Look, we get it. She's nearly 30. She's grown up. She wrote that really excellent "30 Things I Learned Before 30" essay for Elle. We were impressed. She's extended this newfound maturity to her relationship. As we mentioned, the couple has not walked the red carpet together. But they put on a major PDA display at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. She snuck in and out the back door at the premiere of Alwyn's movie The Favorite. Back on May 7 and 8th, 2018 Taylor and Joe shared photos on each of their Instagram accounts of the very same exact cactus. Is this some kind of code? Are they trolling us?

2. He is wary of fame

Joe Alwyn, born in London in 1991, has told a number of news outlets that he is wary of fame. Now, while we can understand that, we also find his choice to date Taylor Swift, arguably one of the most famous people on the planet a little strange. If he's so wary of fame, wouldn't he shy away from a famous girlfriend? Just saying, you know?

3. He's an Instagram husband

Back in December 2017, Taylor and Joe were spotting sort of sway/dancing together and kissing at the Jingle Ball while Ed Sheeran performed. Then, Joe taped Taylor's performance like a good Instagram husband.

4. Taylor's "Me" video

On Friday, April 26th, Taylor Swift dropped her video for "Me" and fans were surprised for two reasons: first, Panic! at the Disco's Brendan Urie appeared in the video. Second, fans are absolutely positive that Tay Tay hid a tribute to Joe in the video. As Taylor and Urie sing “Girl, there ain’t no I in ‘team’  But you know there is a ‘me,’” it is what's happening in the background that has fans swooning. The camera pans up and puts its focus on a building that is covered by rainbows. Look slightly to the left, however, and three of London's most iconic buildings appear — Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. Alwyn was born in North London and the couple spends a lot of time there.

5. He's a homebody

Remember how Alwyn has said a number of times that he was wary of fame? Perhaps the secretive nature of their relationship is because of that. Back in December 2018, a source told Us Weekly: "They’re very low-key and normal. They work out, watch movies together and have friends over. She’s much happier without her personal life out in the open.” Hmmmm. He may be just what Taylor Swift needs to bring some normalcy to her life. We're rooting for Taylor and Joe!
