There’s something about being able to play the field without having to get serious with anyone that these star signs are just drawn to.
Maybe it’s the fact that when things start to get messy and bad you can just leave or maybe you just want to hook up with as many people as possible. These zodiac signs all have different reasons for playing hard to get — some just because it’s fun and others out of necessity.
My horoscope is on this list, and I get it — being in a serious relationship is hard work and if you’re not all in, all the time, then it can be easy to want to just leave the relationship altogether.
But even when taking the easy way out seems like the best thing to do when your relationship gets tough, what’s even more impressive is when you and your partner are able to work through an argument or problem like pros and come out on the other side confident in the future of your relationship… I know, I know that’s not everyone’s idea of fun.
Sometimes, it’s just easier to keep things casual because then you really never have to deal with those awkward conversations and headache-inducing arguments with a partner.
Listen, I love my boyfriend, but there have been times when the rough parts of the relationship have not been my favorite things to deal with. But even in those tough times, I like being in a committed relationship.
I like knowing that there’s one person who I can always count on to be there for me. But, and don’t take this the wrong way, I see the positives in playing hard to get, too.
There’s something intriguing about flirting with one (or more) people at a time and being able to keep things casual and fun because you’re not in a serious relationship.
You can pretty much do whatever you want when you play hard to get — or be so mysterious that you make people wonder what’s really going on in that head of yours (ahem, Scorpio).
And playing hard to get doesn’t make you a bad person — maybe you’re just not ready to settle down just yet (or ever).
It’s only when you use playing hard to get as an excuse to be the flaky player who only cares about getting his body count up (another word for “how many people can I sleep with”).
Of course, we all have our reasons for wanting to keep things casual or dive into a new relationship immediately after breaking one off, it’s how you handle yourself that makes all the difference — you should be doing for yourself, not to use other people (duh).
But, like I said, these specific guys all have their own reasons for playing hard to get, based on their horoscopes and astrology, which can only be explained if you know their zodiac signs.
1. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
It’s hard for anyone to know what Gemini really wants in a relationship – heck, it’s hard for Gemini to really know what he wants, too. He might be really into you one minute and totally uninterested the next, and unfortunately, you’ll probably never be able to tell when he finally does start to lose interest in you because his attention is all over the place. But just because Gemini has a hard time settling down doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy playing hard to get, too.
Gemini isn’t known as the twins for no good reason. He’s got that dual personality that rules his life and his relationships. There might be one part of him that wants to be in a serious relationship, but that other part of him reminds him that hooking up is really fun, too.
That dual personality also makes it hard for him to concentrate on the relationship he’s supposed to be in because it’s not uncommon for him to have someone on the side, too. Gemini doesn’t often try to play hard to get – he just is hard to get.
2. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Getting into Scorpio’s heart and deep into his personal life — and not the “fake deep” personality he sometimes displays to throw off people who are just trying to hurt him – is harder than Indiana Jones trying to get the Holy Grail and make it out alive in one piece in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
He tends to keep everyone at arm’s length, whether in a romantic sense or just a personal one, so playing hard to get is almost out of necessity for him. His worst fear is to get his heart broken into a million pieces, so even if he does feel like he could fall in love with someone, he stops himself before things get too serious.
When Scorpio plays hard to get, he likes being the one in a position of power. Getting to know him will definitely be flirty, but it will also feel like he’s testing you at times or putting you in situations to see how you’ll handle them.
For example, if the two of you go out drinking together, he might get affectionate and more honest with you. If you can handle him then, and not make him feel weird about it in the morning, you might get on his good side.
But even then, it should come as no surprise if he still leaves you (even if it feels like things are going well) because he doesn’t want to put himself in a position where he could lose something good.
3. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Sagittarius plays hard to get like it’s going out of style. It’s so commonplace for him to bounce from one partner to another that if he ever does settle down, it’s like a completely foreign concept.
He’s very big in making sure that he doesn’t lose his freedom when he’s in a relationship and when his partners inevitably want to get serious, he can’t handle even the thought of being tied down. That said, he isn’t one to willingly put himself in a situation where he could get serious with someone, so he plays hard to get so that never happens.
Sagittarius needs to follow his own path in life. There may be a time in the future when he is ready to settle down with someone, but he has a lot on his plate right now and he doesn’t want to give that all up.
He wants to know that he can travel the world, make memories, and meet new people (and kiss a lot of them) without feeling like he’s doing something wrong or leaving his partner behind. For him, playing hard to get is a way of life – it makes him feel like he has all the power (and all the fun).
4. AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Aquarius is one of those people who play hard to get because he’s always hot and cold. First, he’s into you, next he’s feeling smothered — it’s a back and forth kind of thing that never seems to stop with him! He could even be in a serious, long-term relationship and feel like he’s being suffocated by his partner.
Aquarius is a very smart sign that can sometimes get caught up in his head when it comes to life and love. He has a plan for himself (even though he’s willing to take the road less traveled) and when things don’t go according to his plan, he feels like he has to bail and start over.
Aquarius also has to feel stimulated at all times with his partner. If he can’t have a deep conversation with you one moment and start a flirty back-and-forth the next, he’s going to find someone who will.
He can be very aloof and distant at times, too, which, whether by choice or not, can keep him playing the field. He might not want to be honest about his feelings for you, choosing to just play things fast and loose with everyone instead because it makes him feel better to know that he can control how serious things get.
