You could be socially selective and not even know it. There seems to be some confusion regarding the term socially selective, so let’s clear it up.

Being socially selective doesn't mean that you’re antisocial or an extreme introvert. It means that, in general terms, you’re uncomfortable socializing with people you don’t know and are selective about how social you are or who the people are that you choose to be social with. Even your horoscope can't change your personality.

When you’re socially selective you can be honest and outspoken when you’re with your friends but may be on the quiet side when you’re around people you barely know. And it can sometimes come off as snobby.

It’s not easy for a socially selective person to speak out in a discussion group or in class. It isn’t that a socially selective person is necessarily an introvert; in fact, they can be the one cracking jokes and making everyone laugh in their friend circle. They just don’t feel comfortable exposing their true self in front of people they can’t count on as an ally.

Selectively social people can enjoy being around people or being by themselves; alone time is very important for them to decompress and relax.

Where it can get confusing is when you hear terms like socially flexible or socially tolerant in the mix and wonder if they’re the same as socially selective or snobby. Socially flexible is one of those people who can go from friend group to friend group and never feel awkward or uncomfortable, even with people they don’t know. A socially tolerant person is exactly how it sounds: they can handle being around others but they’re not seeking social interaction on a regular basis. Someone who is snobby may feel superior to people and may not feel as if they're on higher social strata.

When a socially selective person has their core group of friends established, they’re cool and don’t really feel a need to reach out and make a new friend. They’re cool with the friends they’ve got and they don't have to do every social event that comes their way. They don't have FOMO (fear of missing out), they have JOMO (joy of missing out).

1. CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)

Sometimes being friendly makes you feel uncomfortable so you do your best to avoid having conversations with your neighbors, the postman, bank clerk, Lyft driver, distant relatives, ex-colleagues, and your ex's friends and relatives. Yes, if you were walking and saw your ex coming toward you, you would cross to the other side of the street. You're also very talented at not making eye-contact. You're not snobby, just awkward and shy.

2. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

Everyone is always telling you that you're very hard to read. It's not something that you're doing on purpose, it's just that you tend to keep things to yourself. You don't just unload all your problems and concerns on people, you keep them to yourself.

You might be a little reserved, mysterious even, but is that a bad thing? So, you're not opening up to every person you meet, but that doesn't make you a jerk, it makes you careful. You don't mean to be high and mighty but that's how some people see you.

3. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

You know you shine at parties but you can't deny that staying in and hanging out on the couch usually is much more appealing than going out. It's a constant battle with you — you'd love to go out and show off that new dress, but binge-watching a new show on Netflix has a stronger pull for you.

It takes a lot of energy for you to flash that dazzling smile and charm the pants off people, so you opt for staying home. There'll be other opportunities for you to slay, but for now, you need to reserve your social resources. Because you're so selective in the people you choose to associate with, you come off as extremely snobby.

4. VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

When your friends ask you to go out on a group date or outing, you'll immediately try to ascertain who else is going and that information is how you decide whether or not you want to go. You don't want to spend time with people you don't know or like that much. But it can also make you appear like one of the snobbiest zodiac signs. You have only so much bandwidth when it comes to socializing and you don't want to waste it on just anybody. You won't pretend to like someone if you don't and that comes off as hella snobby and smug.

5. AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)

When you tell someone that you'll definitely "keep in touch," there's a part of you that feels as if you're lying. You can be kind of an out-of-sight, out-of-mind person.

It's not that you cease to like someone when they're not in front of you, it's just that it's not important to keep up ties with people you'll probably never see again. You wish them well but you're not going to make an effort to be in their lives or make sure to keep them in yours. You come off as snobby because you truly believe you are the sh*t and if people don't understand your brilliance, that's on them.

6. LEO (July 23 - August 22)

You're social much of the time and honestly, it can be exhausting. Only a few people understand that sometimes you need some "me time" and they continue to try and monopolize all your time and energy. You can't be on 24/7; there are times when you don't feel like being funny and social, sometimes you just want to be around people that you are close enough to that you don't have to talk to them without them getting hurt or angry.

Since so many people look up to you, when you don't return their enthusiasm, they think that you're being snobbish. You often come off as pompous and self-important.

7. LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)

You definitely have many social inclinations — you like people, especially when you know them but you still hate yourself a little when you invite people to your house. You're sure that your level of cleanliness isn't up to par, so you'll have to do a big cleaning before they come over and if you've invited them to stay, you'll worry endlessly about their accommodations.

And then there's the problem of people invading your space. You like them, you really do, but you resent them being in your house, even if you invited them. You're not especially snobby but you'd rather not talk then say something that seems confrontational. Silence is often misinterpreted as being stuck-up.

8. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)

You're known for having two distinct sides to your personality and when it comes to being social, those two sides are easy to see. There are times when you're working a party like a pro, making conversation with everyone and putting people at ease; then there are times where you can barely squeak out a sentence.
