Part of what makes us who we are is the combination of people who we keep in our lives, also known as the forever people. These are the people who, no matter what happens, are always there and have our backs.
It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that no matter what you do or mistakes you may make, your forever person will always be there supporting you. The relationship with a forever person is very special but sadly not everyone has one.
Sometimes when you meet someone, you know right away that they’ll always be in your life; other times, they earn that special place with their unconditional love and support.
I have friends from various areas of my life — friends from jobs I no longer work at, schools I no longer attend and projects that were completed long ago. The circumstances of how we met don’t exist any longer but the friendship remains.
I like having people that have seen me through the good, bad, and weird times. It’s as if we have a shorthand, and I like not having to explain why something reminds me of something else. They know already as they’ve been witnesses to my life.
It takes a special person to accept you for who you are, someone who will allow you to be open about the messy, unflattering sides to your personality.
Generally, if someone is a forever person for you, you are their forever person, too. There’s an unspoken agreement that you’ll return the favor and be there for them when they need it.
