Living in different versions of the same world, every age group is annoyed by certain things.

Despite most older generations being more stressed than ever right now, it's often the little things and minor inconveniences that take up the most space in their minds. There are many things Gen Xers and boomers are seriously tired of, even if their Gen Z and millennial counterparts don't worry about them at all.

Things Gen X and boomers are tired of that Gen Z and millennials never worry about

1. Keeping track of passwords

Many older generations have adapted to today's digital world out of necessity, but there are many things they still prefer to keep analog. They have a mistrust towards their phones and online security, so they tend to keep track of their passwords.

They probably have a folder or a shredded piece of paper at home that houses their most important passwords, even if there are online alternatives that could save them time. Some even keep filing cabinets and print off important documents for peace of mind.

It's not about saving time, but rather, energy. But with every new password, keeping up with this habit is annoying, especially when it feels like every small task and obligation requires you to set up a new online account.

2. QR code menus

Despite having all the skills and knowledge for most digital tasks, older generations are easily annoyed by small things like QR menus. They might seem inconsequential, but when everything in your daily life is digitized, it can take away the nostalgia and intentionality that once were nonnegotiable.

Everything nowadays requires an app. You can't even enjoy a meal at a restaurant without needing your phone for something. It's these small things that Gen Zers don't think twice about that are frustrating for older generations who have grown accustomed to analog alternatives.

3. Scam phone calls

Many young people are already avoiding their phone calls, so it's not surprising that clicking decline on spam calls isn't an annoyance. Yes, the increase in texts about loan offers and spam calls can increase stressful notifications on a subconscious level, but mostly, they're not phased.

But for Gen Xers and boomers, who may be more intentional about digital communication and pressured to answer the phone when anyone calls, it's taxing. They're easily annoyed and distracted because they haven't wired themselves to avoid their phones.

4. Planning dinners

Gen Zers and millennials are more likely to use food delivery services than other generations when they don't feel like cooking. But older generations also have a lot more life experience.

They've spent many more years planning dinners and cooking meals, so there has to be a time when it becomes the most tiring, overdone part of their routine. They've spent countless hours and days planning and making food that it's now a chore.

5. Late-night plans

Many people start waking up earlier and naturally going to bed earlier as they get older, which is why late-night plans and an obligation to be out of the house in the evening can feel disruptive. Even for Gen Xers, having their routine interrupted can lead to fatigue that lingers for days.

For Gen Zers and millennials, who can still appreciate a late-night venture and a little less sleep, it's not as annoying. It doesn't throw off their entire mood or sleep schedule, so they don't have to worry about protecting their evenings. At least, not yet.

6. Going to the bank

Most Gen Zers prefer online banking options. They have Apple wallets and Apple Pay. They transfer money right from their phones. Most even pay most of their monthly bills on the internet.

While Gen Xers and boomers have adapted to many of these convenient habits, there are still many who prefer to do most of their finances at an in-person branch.

While it's their preference, the inconvenience of needing to drive to a real bank to take out money or deposit a check is still irritating. It's an obligation that young people rarely worry about.

7. Oversharing

At work, where there are all kinds of generational differences between younger and older co-workers, everyone has very different definitions for what's okay and what's not. Whether it's loyalty or time off, some things just don't land well with Gen X bosses and boomer peers.

For example, to older generations tired of a different kind of professionalism in the office, oversharing can look like bringing personal issues to work or speaking on mental health. But for Gen Z and even some millennials, these are basic parts of life. They don't worry about oversharing because they expect it as a basic right at work.
