Famed American broadcaster and journalist Barbara Walters has sparked health concerns after recently celebrating her 93rd birthday.

The concerns emerged after Whoopi Goldberg gave Walters a birthday shoutout earlier this week on "The View."

“To the one and only Barbara Walters, who had a birthday yesterday, we wanna say, 27 never looked so good!" Goldberg said as a smiling photo of Walters appeared on the screen.

However, viewers became concerned about Walters' health, especially since she hasn't been in the public eye for quite some time.

Is Barbara Walters sick?

Walters has been suffering from advanced dementia and "rarely leaves her bed and doesn't recognize her friends," according to RadarOnline.

“Barbara suffers from exhaustion and fatigue, as well as anxiety and agitation,” the source revealed. “She’s very frail and spends a great deal of the day napping."

“Barbara is fading a little more every day. She’s close to the end and her team is scrambling to manage affairs just the way Barbara would want them," they continued, adding that visitors to her home in New York City have been turned away.

The former "ABC Evening News" host's health is allegedly deteriorating very rapidly that ABC News has reportedly begun preparing her obituary amid speculation that she may pass soon.

“Sadly, her dementia has been getting worse. [Her] caretaker give her the opportunity to make everyday decisions, but more often than not she’ll stare at them blankly," the source added.

Despite her deteriorating health, Walters' former co-hosts from "The View" still reach out to communicate with her.

“On good days, Barbara can distinguish Joy Behar’s voice, but on a bad day, she might just hang up.”

The source noted that Walters' caretakers sense that her mind “turns off, like a blank screen on a television.”

Barbara Walters is allegedly suffering from heart disease as well as dementia.

Walters is reportedly now a recluse and wheelchair-bound, who is allegedly also suffering from hearing loss and heart disease.

In 2019, RadarOnline reported that since Walters left "The View" in 2014, she never leaves her home and is spending her final days "looking out windows and napping."

An insider told the publication that Goldberg had recently tried to visit her, but was left heartbroken after Walters no longer recognized her former co-host.

"They’re really heartbroken about it, and don’t understand why they can’t visit her,” the source said.

In June 2022, Walters was also noticeably absent from the 25th-anniversary celebrations for "The View," causing fans of the talk show to slam the producers and hosts for excluding Walters.

According to The Sun, the show had hosted a reunion event alongside a vacation to the Bahamas, though many noticed that Walters, who created the show in 1997, was absent.
