Romantic movies can sometimes be full of clichés and make love seem so messy. But some of the best love movies on Netflix are really fun to watch, even if they bring a tear to your eye. 

Whether it’s watching a really cheesy romantic comedy with your friends or trying to remind yourself that love exists, there is a movie for everyone.

1. Hitch (2005)

This romantic comedy stars Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, and Amber Valletta. Hitch (Smith) is a professional dating consultant who teaches men how to “woo” women and result in long-lasting relationships. While he helps Albert (James), he meets Sara (Mendes) and starts to fall for her, but she is immune to his many romantic tactics. 

2. Valentine’s Day (2010) 

The start of the infamous stories about one-day holidays written by the late Gary Marshall, Valentine’s Day has quite the ensemble (Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Patrick Dempsey, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, etc…). It follows a group of related characters and their struggles with love on Valentine’s Day and showcases all forms of love, in its beginning and its struggles. 

3. Failure to Launch (2006) 

Starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey, this rom-com follows McConaughey’s character who doesn’t show any signs of leaving his parents home. They hire Paula (Parker) to convince their son to leave and be on his own. Who knows if she will be successful, or if he stays in the nest forever. 

4. Kate and Leopold (2001) 

A romantic story with a time-travel twist, Kate and Leopold stars Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan. After Kate’s (Ryan) ex-boyfriend accidentally brings his great-great-grandfather (Jackman) from the 19th-century to the 2000s, Kate has to try and help Leopold get back to his time. 

5. Always Be My Maybe (2019) 

Written by the main stars, Ali Wong and Randall Park are childhood friends who lost touch during their teenage years. After many years they find each other again and wonder if a relationship between them would work or would end in flames like before.

A biographical romance story, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones play Stephen Hawking and his ex-wife Jane Wilde and his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. 

8. The Notebook (2004) 

A classic Nicholas Sparks story, The Notebook stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and tells their love story through flashbacks. This is the first story from Sparks and started the many tearjerkers to come in both films and novels. 

9. One Day (2011) 

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name, One Day stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. On the same day for the next 18 years, Hathaway and Sturgess struggle with their relationship if they should be friends or if they were meant for each other along with dealing with their personal lives and careers. 

10. A Walk to Remember (2002)

Another Nicholas Sparks movie, this is a coming-of-age film but still gets the tears to fall. After getting in trouble and choosing to participate in school activities to avoid being expelled, Landon Carter befriends Jamie Sullivan, and they both agree not to fall in love. But soon that rule changes and so does their lives.

One of the most talked-about teen movies on Netflix, the story follows Lara Jean Covey as her trail of letters she wrote to her past crushes leads her to fake-date one of them Peter to make others jealous. But, just like other movies with the same plot, the fake-dating soon turns into true feelings and a real relationship. 

12. All The Bright Places (2020) 

Another novel turned film, the movie follows Violet and Theodore who’s meeting changes their lives forever. The film focuses on mental health, which is rare for a romantic movie for teens. 

13. Let It Snow (2019) 

Similar to the Valentine’s Day franchise, Let It Snow follows a group of teenagers who are trying to balance their life with love, and also their friendship with each other. 

14. Seoul Searching (2015)

Set in 1986, this movie tackles teens who have lost touch with their culture and are sent to a summer camp to find out who they are. A coming of age movie that makes us wonder if we should also think back to our roots.

15. The Half of It (2020)

The same person who helps their friend win the heart of their crush but they end up falling for the crush but they don't want to hurt the friend’s heart story, but with a twist. The Half of It has made an impact in the LGBT+ community similar to Love, Simon with its nice coming-of-age storyline that also tackles teens coming out and coming to terms who they love.

Time-travel is very popular in the romance genre, as this movie focuses on a man who has the ability to turn back time. At first, he does so without consequence but soon realizes his decisions do determine the future even with his ability.
