The Best Romantic Movies That Have A Diverse Cast And Celebrate Inclusion — And Why We Need More Of Them

Best Romance Movies To Watch With A Diverse Cast

Romance movies have been one of the best ways for us to escape our own current love story. Watching the guy and girl fall in love, go through some trouble, and resolve it all at the end is something that is comforting.

We all wish we could have these types of love stories.

However, most of the time these stories have characters that are one dimensional and are not relatable. They also lack diversity and inclusion.

Just this year though, we have seen more Hollywood movies with diverse casts and in-depth characters that make the stories more relatable and realistic.

Many of these movies showed that viewers like having people that look like them through sales and viewership. Whether it be in the IMAX theaters or on Netflix, the ratings showed how much people enjoyed these films and viewed them. Much of the success of these types of films are due to the unique stories and characters that inspired them.

Having these successes will allow more opportunities for creators and production companies to support and produce content that reflects the world. When we see a face that is in the media that we can relate to, we feel less alone.

Whether it be about deciding what college to go to or whether to go on a second date with the guy you met on Tinder, having the media create stories that are relatable to all audiences are what make them more successful than others.

Here is a list of three of the best romance movies to watch that have a diverse cast and were also highly successful.

1. Crazy Rich Asians

Based on the best-selling novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians is the first movie that features an all Asian cast in over 20 years. With Constance Wu and Henry Golding as the leading female and male characters, they tell a story about the Asian community.

Not playing into the stereotypes - like working at a Chinese restaurant or as a Kung-Fu master - these characters show how Asians can be vulnerable and dealing with traditional family dynamics.
