Gerard Piqué is 34 years old.

Shakira's long-term boyfriend Piqué was born on February 2nd, 1987, in Barcelona, Spain.

Piqué started his soccer career attending La Masia de Can Planes, or FC Barcelona's youth academy, (Barcelona's youth football club) in 1997 when he was only ten years old. He spent seven years training in the school and at age 17 he joined the Manchester United academy in 2004 because he was very talented.

In 2008 he rejoined FC Barcelona and two years later, at 23-years-old he started dating Shakira. She was 33-years-old.

Since playing for FC Barcelona, Piqué has won four La Liga titles and two European Cups.

Gerard Piqué and Shakira are not legally married.

Even though they've been public about their relationship since 2011 and have been going strong ever since, Piqué and Shakira aren't actually married. In fact, in an interview with 60 Minutes, Shakira explained that she prefers to stay Piqué's girlfriend — at least, for now, anyway.

"To tell you the truth, marriage scares the sh*t out of me. I don't want him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend," she said, adding, "I wanna keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything's possible depending on behavior."

Rumors circulated that Piqué and Shakira broke up.

In 2017, a number of tabloids published articles claiming that Shakira and Piqué split. However, it appears the rumors were unfounded as the two remain in a relationship to this day.

Piqué is Shakira's second serious partner.

Shakira's first and only husband was Antonio de la Rúa, Argentinian lawyer and son of former governor and Argentine president Fernando de la Rúa.

Shakira and Gerard aren't married, as Shakira has said before, "we have never been a traditional couple.”

The two never got married because they see no reason in it as the two are partners for life and they live a happy life with two children. What more could you ask for?

"We already have what’s essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them,” Shakira said in a 2014 Glamour interview.

The couple met on the set of one of her music videos.

Piqué and Shakira met in 2010 when he was in her music video for "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" which featured the Cape Town, South Africa fusion band, Freshlyground.

"It all started when we were together in South Africa and I wrote to her," Piqué told Spain's TV3 in 2016. "She was already there because she sang in the opening ceremony, and I asked her what the weather was like. It's the typical stupid question, and the normal answer is to tell me to bring a jacket [June/July are winter in South Africa]," he explained. "But she started telling me what the weather was, like, every minute, and it got to the point where I told her we [Spain] would have to get to the World Cup final to see her again—she was singing at the final."

The song became the anthem for the 2020 FIFA World Cup, and being that Piqué was playing in the cup (and ended up winning, along with his team), it seems like a very appropriate way for them to have crossed paths for the first time.

He's best known for his soccer career.

Piqué's soccer career began in 2004, and he's been playing ever since. Right now, he plays for Barcelona and the Catalonian national football team. On both teams, he plays defender, and in 2019, he celebrated playing 500 games for Barcelona — pretty impressive.

He's also known for founding a sports investment group.

When Piqué isn't playing soccer, he's working with his sports investment group Kosmos Holding.

Along with his partners, Piqué founded the company in 2017, and according to its official website the team is currently working on "building a global portfolio of high-quality sports, media, and entertainment companies."

Piqué totally expected Shakira to blow the crowds away at the Super Bowl LIV.

In fact, he said that performing at the Super Bowl was something Shakira had talked about for years, so it was gratifying to see her dream finally come true.

"It will be very intense because she wants to do it perfect, and she will prepare day and night and she will be ready because I know that she will be ready," he said. "All I expect is her to enjoy the experience, which I don't know if she'll enjoy because of the pressure [she puts on herself]. But I know she will do incredibly well and she will be proud at the end of the day when the Super Bowl is over."

Shakira and Piqué frequently share sweet moments from their lives as a family on Instagram.

Fans can follow along with the couple on social media, along with their two sons: Sasha, 6, and Milan, 8, who are also big soccer fans.

The family knows they are always busy and the kids don't get to see their parents as often so when they are all together, Shakira and Gerard let them have their own personal victories if that's letting them win at a soccer game and just having fun.

"With Shaki, sometimes we let them win because we understand that they have a completely different context to what I or she had, they were not known parents, we did not have this pressure. Our children live with excessive pressure...They were born with that and I think it‘s important that sometimes they have personal victories even if it’s at home. Playing soccer with Milan or Sasha we let them win," Piqué said in an interview with Hola! magazine

They may never be married, but it seems like these two are living happily ever after and supporting each other in their careers, and that's all that really matters.
