If you ask any romantic, the three most important words in the English language are: I love you. In that order, of course. To love, to be loved, to say you’ve loved, and to feel what those words really mean is extraordinary stuff.
But, tragically, not everyone who says those words means them. I know I just shot an arrow through the hearts of romantics everywhere and I’m truly sorry!
However, since your horoscope can't always predict who truly loves you, and no one deserves to be made a fool and there’s nothing that makes one feel more foolish than being lied to about love, let’s save you any future humiliation. Here are the zodiac signs who say "I love you" and don't mean it.
1. AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)
Oh, Aquarius. Who hasn’t met an Aquarius and been immediately wrapped up in their world of impossible ideals and irrational way of looking at life? It truly is a break from the real world, isn’t it?
But while that’s definitely the case, all that whimsy can confuse Aquarius and before they know it, they’re telling you they love you — well, you and everyone and anyone else. While they absolutely, positively don’t mean it when they say it, they don’t mean to be mean either. It’s just how they roll: all whimsical and heartbreakingly obtuse.
2. LEO (July 23 – August 22)
While Aquarius is at the top of the list of zodiac signs who say "I love you" and don't mean it, Leo isn’t far behind — but for totally different reasons. In being loyal and generous, Leo is the one who’s going to tell you that they love you after you say it first to keep up appearances, knowing full well that they don’t love you and probably never will.
Also, in some cases, Leo will say it first just to hear someone say it back to them, again, knowing that they don’t love that person and probably never will, but they need that validation to fulfill their ego and arrogance. You're evil, Leo!
3. SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)
There are two personality quirks that make Scorpio the third most likely zodiac sign to say “I love you” and not mean it: passion and jealousy. It’s their passion that will make them think it’s OK to say "I love you" and not mean a damn word of it, convincing themselves that it’s coming from a good place.
Then, not to be outdone, their jealous nature will have them throwing out “I love you,” for a variety of reasons: a need for attention, to one-up someone else, to prove their worth — any number of things. Either way, if Scorpio tells you that they love you, take it with a grain of salt. A very small grain of salt.
4. GEMINI (May 21 – June 20)
Although a lot of fun, Gemini has quite a few factors that make them very likely to say “I love you” and not mean it. First of all, they’re the most adaptable of all the signs, meaning they know exactly what to say in all situations, even if it means lying. Then, speaking of lying, Gemini is deceptive AF.
If Gemini thinks for one second telling you they love you will benefit them, they’ll do it. And sadly, they won't feel bad about it either.
5. LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
The problem with Libra is their obsession with beauty and romance can cloud their vision. While they won't be malicious when they tell you that they love you and don't mean it, they won't exactly feel bad later on in the night when they realized they lied to you.
In their mind, it was the beautiful romantic notion of being in love, even for the fleetest of moments that helps them justify their somewhat (read: completely) reckless behavior. But, hey, love is supposed to hurt, right? Le sigh.
