zodiac signs that are Debbie Downers

There are those optimistic people who always have a smile on their face and see the glass as half full. And then there are the pessimistic people who never have a smile on their face and think that not only is the glass empty, it’s been kicked over and broken.

Doesn't it seem like no matter how happy and optimistic you might feel, there’s always somebody who brings you down with their pessimistic attitude? You may look at their horoscope to see if their attitude will change, but that doesn't always work.

However, most of the time, people aren’t 100 percent optimistic nor are they 100 percent pessimistic; they’re somewhere in-between.

They have bad days but they still have hope that things will get better, and there are other times when everything is good which keeps them on edge waiting for something bad to happen.

Some people just think of themselves as realistic, meaning that they know things are never always bad nor are they always good. The world doesn't work in an organized way so that you think to yourself, “Oh, it’s Monday. It’s bound to be a crappy day.”

It’s healthier to be optimistic. If you believe that you’re not forever stuck in a pattern where terrible thing after terrible thing happens, you can go forward knowing that things will get better. You can find the joy in small things and know that tomorrow will be a better day. When you’re convinced that things will only get worse, your body will prepare itself for those bad days — your muscles will tense and you’ll internalize that negativity.

Mental health plays a large role in our physical health. When you have a negative attitude that’s full of doom and gloom, it will be reflected in your body. You don’t feel good when you’re always feeling pessimistic.

The zodiac sign that you’re born under has some influence on how pessimistic you are. Here are the zodiac signs that are Debbie Downers, ranked from most to least.

1. CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)

Capricorn is the number one most pessimistic sign. They don't like to stick their neck out and take chances, especially if the odds are that they'll fail. Capricorns prefer to play it safe and when bad things happen as expected, they know how to deal with them. You can try to change their negative outlook but it probably won't work.

2. PISCES (February 19 - March 20)

Pisces can be very pessimistic, especially if their dreams are dashed and things don't turn out as they hoped. Think Charlie Brown and the football. They want to believe that things will turn out fine and that the clouds gathering overhead won't result in a massive storm, but every time they hold out a little hope, the worst inevitably happens.

3. CANCER (June 21 - July 22)

You know how some people view failure as something that makes you stronger and forces you to get back up and keep going? Well, that's not how Cancers react. They're perfectly willing to abandon everything when they experience a failure, especially one that has to do with the heart.

Once they've had their heart broken, they have it in the back of their minds that it's going to happen again, so they become very guarded when it comes to love. "Fool me once and I'm done" is Cancer's mantra.

4. VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

Virgos tend to have a negative outlook, though they'd probably describe it as being "realistic." They've done the research, they've looked at the odds, and generally, things don't come out in their favor.

Virgos are just aware of the ways that things can improve and if that seems pessimistic, then so be it. If one isn't aware how bad things are and can be, then they'd only get worse, not better.

5. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

Not all Taurus' are negative but when they are, they're one of the zodiac signs that are Debbie Downers to the max. They believe that the world is doomed, voting is pointless, an upbeat attitude is a sign of stupidity, and no matter how young they may be, the best part of their life is behind them. Taurus could get a gold medal in pessimism if such a thing existed.

6. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

Scorpios are all in when it comes to their emotions and because they feel things so deeply when relationships or projects sour, Scorpio can find themselves in a cycle of negative emotions, grudges, and long-lasting pessimism. Their need for revenge is scary, especially when tied to a pessimistic attitude. Why show an ex compassion when the world's going to end tomorrow anyway?

7. GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)

Most people are familiar with Gemini's social and friendly side; however, there's a darker, more serious side to Gemini. They can be very pessimistic because they'd prefer to keep their expectations low, so as not to be disappointed.

Often times, Geminis live in a world of inconsistency which makes them anxious and causes them to have a lack of direction. They're more optimistic when they have a plan in motion and know where they're going; if not, they can get convinced that everything is going to go wrong.

9. ARIES (March 21 - April 19)

Aries don't like to lose, so if they get on a losing streak or seem to be making mistake after mistake, they can withdraw a little bit into a negative way of thinking. They can get out of their "stinkin' thinking" by challenging themselves to do something out of their comfort zone, changing a location, or physically working themselves to a point where they're happily exhausted. Aries individuals aren't comfortable living in a place of pessimism.
