When someone is under a lot of stress, it can feel like all of their mental and emotional strength is slowly seeping away.

This will make their tolerance for the frustrating parts of life much lower. Things that most people will just put up with will feel like a huge deal to them and change the way they complain.

People always complain about these things when they’re slowly losing their mental and emotional strength

We’re not aware of our emotions while we sleep, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t affecting us. Sleep medicine specialist Alicia Roth, PhD, explained, “Even run-of-the-mill stress and anxiety can make our brains more hypervigilant at night. That can prevent the automatic process of falling asleep from happening.”

Going to sleep doesn’t mean your brain actually shuts off, so people who are on their last leg emotionally won’t get the most out of their rest. They’ll probably become convinced that sleeping for a full day wouldn’t even make a difference.

2. Having to be strong for everyone else

It’s hard for people to remember that being responsible for someone’s well-being isn’t the same thing as being responsible for their feelings. Confusing the two means someone will turn their support for loved ones into a need to always project a perfect image.

This is just an act that’s really exhausting to keep up with, and it will change where their sense of self-worth comes from if they do it long enough. People can face hard times together without actually putting themselves through that.

3. Never having time to themselves

People often mistake being alone for loneliness and fill their schedules as much as they can to avoid that feeling. That becomes its own problem, though, because people aren’t meant to be in social mode all the time.

Solitude can be really valuable, especially when it comes to people’s mental health. Eventually, people who are losing their strength realize this makes things harder and wish they could spend less time around others.

4. Not enjoying anything anymore

Anyone who has struggled with their mental health before is probably familiar with feeling like nothing is fun anymore. The things they used to love stopped bringing them joy because they just don’t feel the same as they used to.

This is a common complaint for people who are running out of strength. It’s almost like they don’t have enough energy to have fun now because they’re so focused on surviving. There may be times when this feels necessary, but it’s no way to live life long-term.

5. Having too many choices to make

Logic says that getting a hard decision over with will make someone’s load feel lighter. But one of the hardest things about having a lot of decisions to make is that the more it feels like they’re piling up, the more difficult it is to actually choose.

When people get totally overwhelmed by the choices they need to make, it leads to something called analysis paralysis that makes them feel like they can’t do anything. Low mental and emotional strength makes this kind of thing worse, so they’ll start complaining about it without realizing it’s a vicious cycle they can’t get out of.

6. Losing their temper too easily

It would be easy to assume that people who are losing their mental strength don’t feel much of anything anymore, but that’s not always the case. It’s actually much easier to get angry when you’re already feeling stressed, which becomes a problem for these people.

Things that wouldn’t have bothered them before, or at least would have felt manageable, will become the thing that makes them snap. They’ll obviously be super confused, and everyone else in their life will be, too.

7. Feeling guilty about everything

Our culture has a way of making everyone feel guilty for things that aren’t actually bad, like resting or needing help. People who feel this way constantly without being able to control it are probably experiencing a guilt complex.

The tricky thing is that anxious people are more likely to feel guilty, but that guilt also causes more anxiety. This leaves people who already think they’re at the end of their rope feeling completely helpless.

8. Barely being able to concentrate

Stress impacts the brain in multiple disruptive ways, including by making it harder to focus. This means anyone who feels like they’re losing all emotional strength will probably start complaining about their concentration, and their frustration will be completely valid.

Everyone has been in a situation where they felt like they were under so much pressure that they literally couldn’t think straight. When people feel that pressure 24/7, it’s like they get stuck in that state of confusion permanently.

If someone is losing their mental and emotional strength, they’re probably going to feel pretty desperate to turn things around so they can feel more in control. The problem is that they might also feel totally stuck and think that there’s no way out.

Almost everyone has felt stuck at some point in their lives, but people with more mental strength are able to pull themselves out of it a bit easier. Somebody who already feels like they have nothing left won’t have any motivation to move forward when it seems impossible, which can leave them in a bad place.
