People Who Are Highly Sensitive Really Don’t Like When 9 Things Happen To Them

This can make things that are pretty annoying to the average person seem borderline unbearable to them. They aren’t bad at handling inconveniences, but they do process them differently.
Highly sensitive people can’t stand it when these things happen to them
1. Someone raising their voice at them

Talking to someone who suddenly raises their voice would be a lot for anyone to deal with. It makes them doubt what the other person is really feeling and wonder whether they’ve lost control of the conversation completely. It would understandably overwhelm a really sensitive person even more.
Although being shouted at can make people feel like they need to go into defensive mode, it’s possible that someone is doing that because they feel really helpless. It’s hard to remember they aren’t trying to be hurtful in the moment, though.
2. Feeling rushed when they’re trying to think
Highly sensitive people are big fans of patience. This gives them the space they need to work through whatever they’re feeling. Unfortunately, a lot of people think being patient is a problem itself instead of a way to wait out problems.
Since everyone has a different threshold for patience, sensitive people won’t be able to avoid feeling rushed sometimes. Other people might not be moving at the same pace they are. But they really hate when that means they don’t have enough time to think about what’s next.
3. Getting overwhelmed when people misunderstand them
Anyone who feels misunderstood will have an intense emotional reaction, so it makes sense that this would feel twice as bad for people who already feel things more deeply than everybody else.
Some people are able to pivot more easily than others and communicate differently so that others see where they’re coming from. That’s not something that sensitive people can do when they’re in the middle of feeling like their emotions are too much.
4. Needing to explain themselves
The people who are the most likely to explain things in way too much detail are usually the ones who learned that was the best way to not upset others. That makes the feeling that they need to explain themselves much more than an inconvenience to people who are highly sensitive.
Instead of seeing it as the quickest way to move forward, it reminds them of the times in their past that triggered such deep emotions. That’s not a place they want to go back to.
5. Making awkward small talk

Most people know that small talk is an inevitable part of life, even if they hate it. Being stuck in a conversation about the weather with someone they met five minutes ago feels even more like torture to anyone who’s highly sensitive, though.
The problem with small talk is that it doesn’t really matter. Someone who feels things deeply would much rather discuss something they actually care about instead of whatever feels necessary to fit in.
6. People expecting them to move on quickly
It’s totally possible for people to move on from the things that hurt them, but everyone does that in their own way and on their own timeline. Someone who’s really sensitive might need a little more time to get over deep emotional wounds, but that doesn’t mean others will understand why.
People often think they’re helping someone when they tell them they need to let go of the past. It’s one of those things that’s much easier said than done, though. No one can magically move on right away, especially when they’re more sensitive.
7. Having to change their plans with no notice
Feeling frustrated when plans change at the last minute is just human nature. When someone isn’t really more sensitive than the next person, it’s something they can move past without too much trouble.
It’s totally different for highly sensitive people. They become attached to the idea of those plans, and whatever was going to happen because of them, so it’s hard for them to accept changes. Not having enough time to process it just makes it feel even more uncomfortable.
8. Being around people with negative energy
Everyone is able to feel other people’s negative emotions on some level. Of course, being highly sensitive means you can sense feelings more than the average person can.
That means that they’re not only more likely to pick up on negative energy, but also that when they do, it’s like they get a double dose. That’s an awful feeling that leaves them exhausted, so they do everything they can to avoid people who make them feel that way.
9. Getting stuck at a large social gathering

Being super sensitive doesn’t automatically make someone an introvert, too. Everyone has a certain level of energy they can devote to socializing before they feel totally depleted, though. A more sensitive person will probably have a lower level since they feel things differently.
This means they have to think about how they spend their time in social situations wisely. But there are some things that are pretty unavoidable. Getting stuck somewhere they don’t want to be, and that’s quickly draining their battery, feels terrible to them.
