Deeply Overworked People Can Usually Only Do 8 Things When They Get Off Work
Bahadir Caya | Pexels Work isn't necessarily meant to be fun, though it can be a great side effect of a job. Still, when someone has a lot of responsibilities, they're likely not going to enjoy work.
After spending hours at a job and dedicating so much energy to tasks, an employee feels overworked and may eventually find themselves dealing with burnout. So, when they get off work, they can only do certain things at home due to their stress levels.
Overworked people can usually only do these things when they get off work
1. Watch TV

Watching TV is the perfect combination of doing nothing and feeling entertained. Where social media makes people scroll through endlessly, TV allows people to sit back and watch for as long as they please.
TV shows get people excited about a story they want to continue after work. The new episode of their favorite show coming out might be the only thing a deeply overworked person has to look forward to after spending all day stressed out on the job.
It's something that continuously interests them without them having to search for something to do. And because they probably don't have the energy for that after work, it's a mindless activity that lets them relax.
2. Talk about work
When a person is deeply overworked, it starts to take over their life. Their work environment makes them unable to turn off their brain even after they get home. They'll still be thinking about the tasks they have lined up for the next day.
They worry they're forgetting something because they have too much work to manage. Their thoughts revolve only around work, so it's what they talk about. They may even complain to their roommates or partner about their workload.
Talking things out is a great way to process things, so it can be helpful if they do that to unwind. But they may want to work on separating work from their personal lives, or it will feel like they never left the office.
3. Doomscroll
People enjoy doomscrolling on their phone after a long day. The videos are short and there's so much content available, it's an endless stream of entertainment.
If they don't have time to listen to podcasts or read books, it's a much simpler option. Because they have so much to do during the workday, doomscrolling offers them a chance to shut their brain down for a moment.
Overworked people probably crave that little fix when they finally get off work and can do whatever they want. They don't really care if it doesn't exactly stimulate them.
4. Play video games
Overworked, drained people still find time to play video games after work. It doesn't feel like a task as much as it does fun. And with video game apps, you can kind of just lie down and shut off your mind.
This activity actually helps them, though. It might seem mindless, but it's managing their anxiety as a result of work. In fact, games help people manage their stress and build up their tolerance to handle it in the future.
Even if they don't realize it, they'll know that after having fun like this, they feel better. It might even convince them to keep going at work, and they can reward themselves afterward.

When people are overworked, they only want to do things that bring them peace and calm when they get home. But they're not just workers, they're human beings, and they have to take care of themselves.
Even if they don't want to, by cooking a meal for themselves at the end of the day, they're getting their second wind. They have the energy to keep working through their busy schedule.
Cooking can also be really therapeutic and is a great way to decompress after a stressful day.
6. Call their loved ones
When people are exhausted after work, the last thing they want to do is talk to people, even if it's their loved ones. They may not want to hang out in person, but a quick phone call can do wonders.
Relationships take work, especially really strong ones. People have to continuously check in with friends or family to maintain the connection. And there's no better way to unwind than talking about your day with someone you trust.
Overworked people still make the effort with their loved ones, even after a long day. They want to keep those relationships alive in the end.
7. Do creative hobbies
Work takes away time from hobbies. Still, most workers have set schedules that give them days off or hours where they can enjoy those activities. But deeply overworked people don't have that same luxury.
They find themselves constantly doing work, leaving them with limited time to do what they want. That doesn't mean they lose interest in these hobbies, though. After all, hobbies can be a great way for people to creatively express themselves in a way they're not getting to do at work.
Overworked people take the limited free time they still have on doing something they like. Whether they realize it or not, it's also making them happier. It's how they can still enjoy life, even with so much of their time being taken up by work stress.
8. Change into comfortable clothes

The clothes we wear to work are rarely the most comfortable option. Workers are expected to look professional, but those kinds of clothes aren't what they would wear at home.
Because they wear business attire or office wear for hours on end, when they come home, they can finally get into comfy clothes. It might be soft pajamas or an oversized shirt, but no matter what they put on, it brings a sense of relaxation.
They want to let themselves find peace after a long day. Even if it's another task, it's a way to stop thinking about work and shift gears. They're changing their outfits, and it changes their mindset as well.
