Eight people were injured by Betai Koffi after he went on a rampage fueled by taking LSD. According to USA Today, after choking one friend and punching two others, Koffi stabbed another friend with a pencil. He also stabbed a security guard, with the metal end of a landscape light, who confronted him for abandoning a rental car he was driving. Koffi then drove off in the security guard's truck and hit two pedestrians in the street and another walking on a bluff. While driving erratically, he rammed a patrol car. One of the officers in the patrol car shot Koffi three times, critically injuring him.
