According to NBC News, Denise Nickerson's son Josh and his wife Jasmine were the ones who announced the former actress's death on social media.

"Nickerson's son, Josh, and his wife, Jasmine, announced on Facebook that she had died, writing, "She's gone." Jasmine told NBC News that her mother-in-law died at about 10:15 p.m.," they wrote.

According to Page Six, Denise Nickerson suffered a stroke last year, and had faced a series of medical complications as a result. Ultimately, however, the side effects of the stroke would claim her life.

"Nickerson, who played the gum-obsessed Violet in the 1971 classic movie, had been receiving around-the-clock care at home after suffering a severe stroke last year. Her condition worsened this week after she “got into her medicines and took as much as she could,” her son Josh and his wife, Jasmine, wrote on a GoFundMe page. The couple, who are expecting their first child in late August, announced on Wednesday that Nickerson was being taken off life support," they reported.
